Bought it on e-bay. Payed half the price, could have been cracked when I got it . I put about 200 miles on it before I noticed it. Great ride. Parts along was worth the deal. I just wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem.Mellow Yellow said:Why are you not taking it back to the bike shop for a warranty?
My '04 Ram XT 2500 is also bowing at the seat tube and there's a hairline crack forming at the weld holding the rocker pivot to the seat tube.mattsavage said:But my 04 Ram XT 2500 seat tube was bowing in at the rocker pivot. I got it "warrantied". I sent it back to the shop where I got it and they sent me a new frame off their floor. I have a feeling they got an 05 for replacement, which kind of bums me out.
I hope you get another Ram XT frame in return. I heard they were all out of them. They were discontinued this year also. That was a silly maneuver on Raleigh's part.erock12 said:My '04 Ram XT 2500 is also bowing at the seat tube and there's a hairline crack forming at the weld holding the rocker pivot to the seat tube.I'm noticing that the '05 Ram XT 2500 frame has the rocker pivot mounted on the front of the seat tube. Maybe this is a better configuration?
I've already talked to the shop and have the warranty process started. I was just curious as to whether anyone has any experience with the '05 frame. I've really enjoyed my '04 and hope my replacement will ride similar and hopefully last longer than the '04.
Yeah, it'll ride fine. I put a Sherman Flick plus on mine. Dropped it to 110 for the climbs and 150 for everything else. The 3500 has the exact same frame, yet it came spec'd with a Slider.erock12 said:Now you're making me paranoid!! I hope Raleigh has one stashed somewhere because I know a Phase model frame isn't going to cut it. I hated to see that crack, my Ram XT has been my favorite bike. One thing I noticed is that the '05 is spec'd with a 150mm front fork and I only have a 130mm currently. Am I in for some screwy geometry or will that setup still ride ok?
They probably are isolated. I use mine (RAM XT2500) for light freeriding and raced a season of DH on it. I used the frame to its full potential. I didn't abuse it, but I certainly tested the build build quality and design. It's a great frame and it did what it was supposed to do. I've seen higher end frames break with less than what I put it through.jmjones said:I hope that these cracks are isolated incidents. BTW, what type of riding are you doing? I do mostly singletrack/light cross country.
I agree. I think you will be very pleased with your Raleigh. Much like Matt, I tend to ride hard and use my RAM XT2500 for trails and light freeriding including a few 6-7 foot drops. My buddy has had a Ram 1.0 for the past two years and never had any problems with it. He rides mainly XC with an occasional drop (Same frame platform as the Ram 4.0, just lower end componentry.) I still haven't heard from my shop yet so I've still got my fingers crossed that I'm getting another XT 2500 frame.mattsavage said:They probably are isolated. No remorse, no way. Your bike will last a long time. The cracked headtube incident is a rare one with any builder. That's probably why the original owner sold it, thought he could get away with it (and he did).jmjones said:I just finished paying off my '05 Ram 4.0 at my LBS.
