2005 Prophet 1000: Is this normal?

Probably a stupid question but...

The other day I noticed I can look right though the center of the BB/Crankset on my prophet and see out the other side. Is that normal, or did something fall off?

Seems like it would be subject to mud/dirt/etc all exposed like that.

It's got the stock TruVatiV Stylo GXP/TruVatiV Giga x Drive setup.

Yes. With the new standard of BB with outboard mounted bearings, BB axle are not a solid piece of metal anymore but rather hollow, or a tube. Depending of the brand and model, some driveside arms/spiders are fixed/pressed-in/welded to the axle and the non-drive side arms are bolted to the axle in a way that, yes, allows you to see right through it. Some mud might get in but not that much and it's easy to clean it off. And mud wont affect the durability of the seals, bearings and anything else...

Don't worry.

Thanks Dan!
I kinda figured it was just my being out of touch with the latest bike tech, having come from a '93 Delta V!
