Strength:

stiff, plush

Weakness:

No spares avaliable, but it is about 12 years old

Great fork unfortunately no longer supported, but it is old. Got this a few years a go on ebay as NOS, as cheap, for a parts bin build, worked well for 7 months hard riding in all conditions with no maintenance except general washing and wipe down, till a seal blew out, then the stantion started to score very quickly. Was aware of this, and as no spares available, rode till wrecked, swapping out with another NOS Quake C.

Strength:

- you hardly notice its there (untill you swop bikes!)
- very precise steering
- excellent damping
- high quality finish
- low maintenance

Weakness:

- haven't found any weaknesses so far

Late last winter my old suspension had to be replaced after almost 3 years hard labour. After reading some tests I decided to go for the Dutch products of former motocross champion Gerard Rond. Installing was straight forward. Then the first ride. Is it working? I guess so. The precise steering was quite obvious from the beginning. But then I noticed a marked improvement of my speed over bumpy grassroads compared to my usual training mates. A change of bikes made it abolutely clear that the Rond Quake Comp very effectively made a smooth road out of a bumpy trail. Quite impressive!

Even without taking price into consideration, these are by far the best forks I have ridden. I have previously used Bombers for their plushness and reliability but the Ronds have more travel and are far cheaper. I also really like the way that the exposed stanchion measures only slightly more than the actual travel, thus making the fork ride like a medium travel fork. A 100mm fork you can actually climb on!

Buy some NOW.

These forks are very good. They have a lot of adjustment abillities. They are solid and they are disk brake compatilble. I like the 105mm best because it has just a bit more travel then the 75mm and is not as heavy as the 15mm tripleclamp. So iff you want a new front suspension and you want something diffrent buy a rond magura quake comp pro.Oh, and iff you have any problems with the fork what so ever they will repair it for you without costs (no shipping costs to). THIS FORK GETS THE FIVE STARS ***** and one x-tra from me *

75mm travel - just right
Reliable - very
Solid - very very rarely bottoms out
Adjustability
Disc-brake enabled
What more do you want in a fork - forget Rockshox!

Weakness:

At £300 odd it's a tight market and Rond aren't as well know as Rockshox etc...

Damn fine forks - had 18 odd months, cycled most days (over 12 000 kilometres) off & on road and no blown seals or leaks - haven't serviced them yet - doesn't need it. Just bring that price down a bit.

This is a very rigid fork!
Very smooth
Great rebound control
Seals are the best
Very little maintenance needed
Weight (for a coil spring that is)
Service from Magura/Rond

Weakness:

No standard compression damping

This shock rocks big time! I'm a heavy rider at 200lbs+ This means that even if I don't ride hard, my equipment has to deal with my weight. I broke a Sugar 3 above the bottom bracket. I must say that my current bike is great. Although I would like discs and some other upgrades (Crossmax, Stylo team Cranks, Rocket V sadle etc.) I have to be honest... The current setup works great, the fork is the best. It's reliable, smooth, plush etc. I hope Magura will succeed in selling more of this famous Gerard Rond product now they've bought Rond.

Mine is the one with FirmTech, with 75mm stroke) which means that a pair of Magura HS-33 breakes are integrated with the forks lowers, posisioned behind the legs instead of in front of `m. Stiff construction, thus very precise steering, works well on any kind of bump. Easy to adjust, easy to maintain.

Weakness:

A bit heavy (party because the steerer tube is stiil chromoly), you cannot adjust the brakes height (in my case I have to shave a bit of the underside of the pads to make sure they only touch the brakingsurface of the rims), breakes not as powerfull as on a regular Quake C with brakeboosters. The difference is small though.

A very dependable fork, the faster you go, the better it seems to work. In order to save some weight I will change to a 2001 series Rond Quake Air 70mm, with FirmTech of course. Check out www.rond.nl
