Didn't use it enough. But more than did what it should for the money and the specs. Trails and some sort jumping. More of a hardtail rider. Canadian dollars.

Weakness:

A bit heavy.

Strength:

Strong, durable, very upgradab

Weakness:

A bit heavey, stock components crappy and break down

I bought this bike new in 2003 and have since upgraded every thing on it except the actual frame. Two years in I upgraded to XT all around plus a Marzocchi bomber front fork. Last year I upgraded the wheel set, bottom bracket, crankset, rear shock (manitou Revox pro), front fork (manitou match comp 130 mm), stem, handlebars, grips and disk brakes. Having ridden it for the last year and dialing the suspension it is exactly the bike I have always wanted. It takes everything I throw at it and asks for more. On the trail people are always surprised it's a 13 year old bike. I will ride this bike until I can't ride any more or it breaks whichever comes first. The two best upgrades by fare were the new shocks. The Manitou Revox pro is 6 way adjustable and really works well. The Manitou match comp is plush and responsive. Even though the frame is 13 years old, the suspension is modern and so is the ride. Anyone looking for a sturdy frame worth upgrading should find one of these. From what I know, the 2003 frames are stronger than previous models.

Strength:

Sturdy, responsive, for trail riding and fast downhills.

Weakness:

A bit heavy

I have had this bike for roughly 13 years. I got off a GT LTS 2 for this bike. The Giant Warp DS has been smoother and more rigid than my GT, for a third of the price. Since purchasing this bike I have upgraded the components to shimano XT all around. Also, replaced stock front fork for a Manitou and am currently waiting on a new wheel set, tires and disk brakes. Was thinking about getting a new Giant Stance but for $300 from Nashbar can get what I want with my warp ds. I can afford a brand new full suspension but can not see why when I can upgrade my warp for such short money. I will hammer this bike with my sons all summer, one is riding my old GT and the other bought a new hard tail last year. The both envy my warp.

I had been on a solid suspension Fuji for two years . but since I adventure, it became spine torture. In December,2003, While in a bike shop, fell in love with my Giant DS-2 on first sight and it instantly became my prime source of transportation and has been so since. The frame WILL hold up and, being able to attack logs or curbs head-on while dodging traffic with the rock-shocks,and the warp suspension, makes this a charm. The best multi-use so far and it did the MS-150!

Weakness:

It does not come in graphite-composite for under $10,000.00
That and thirty speeds would do.

If you honestly and truly enjoy being on a dependable, comfortable, multi-functional bike on the street attacking curbs, or while exploring on rough terrain attacking branches and logs; this is your bike.
This December, 2013 will be my TENTH YEAR riding my Giant DS-2 through all seasons and the MS150!

Strength:

Comfortable, handles well, strong frame and adjustable full suspension in rear, solid fork and smooth shifting Shimano Alivio components

Weakness:

none

For casual mountain biking on state park marked trails, I cannot imagine a better mount. Went deep into the hills this weekend near Bear Mountain, up and down a variety of trails including large rocks, mushy mud sections, steep up and down sections, large fallen branches, etc. Stayed in the same gear almost all day; number two on left handle and number 3 on right handle. After three hours of constant riding, I was tired but able to maintain a steady rapid pace without feeling winded due in part to the gear selection and excellent ergonomics. The bike performed flawlessly and nothing broke or bent despite very rugged terrain and lots of potato size and larger jagged rocks. Tires had approx 50 psi front and back. Cannot think of a single complaint. It climbs, descends, stops, accelerates, jumps and navigates tricky rocky sections extremely well. I have never ridden an exotic high end 1000 dollar plus bike so I really cant compare from personal experience. Rear swing arm has two settings - I use the lower travel setting but have the option to increase travel if I want greater travel for big hits. Bottom line: it represents great value, especially if you can find a clean used one.

good frame, really light! rear shock kiks butt.

Weakness:

the derialleur hanger is the only real weakness that causes me truble.the V brakes could be replaced.

i win races on this bike. i'v done lots of work to my bike, but i love it. its fine tuned for me, and the way i ride. if you are looking for a good bike that dosent cost as much as a car, this is the one. i'm getting 2 more, one for the wife and a second (less hard core) one for my self.

Strength:

Solid frame, rims, seat, overall looks

Weakness:

Way too heavy, forks are crappy and bottom out over speed bumps. I have the 18.5" frame and I think the last time I weighed it, came in @ about 40 lbs. You have got to stay in the saddle otherwise it's like a sponge. The tires are a bit much, but good in loose gravel and hardpack. Don't expect to have much fun on asphalt. Components are not all that hot

I have to concur with many of the other reviews on this bike, GREAT bike for entry level bikers with the opportunity to make several upgrades for less than the cost of higher end bikes. Very solid frame which has not failed me yet. I am perhaps a little large for this frame (175 lbs) but dumping the forks and replacing the shock a true mtb for the price. Great value!!

Strength:

very nice frame, it is ready to be upgraded to just about anything. if anything breaks it wont be the frame.

Weakness:

some cheap parts that need to be upgraded. cranks, wheels, fork

this is a great bike if you want to get something decent to ride. it's definately worth upgrading if you like to do some drops and jumps. it climbs great cause it is pretty light. stuff and cant afford the DS1 right off the bat. it will hold up but the rst is too soft. mine ended up being better than the DS1 and i put just a little bit more in it than what the DS1 cost. the biggest drop i have hit is about six feet and it was butter with the plush 5-in rear travel. mmmmm
