Sombrio Shazam Mid Shoes

DESCRIPTION

After establishing themselves by producing innovative and functional riding clothing, Sombrio's now taking the mountain bike shoe market by storm -- and the Shazam Mid Shoes are its premium, competition ready offering. Sporting the technology of its standard models, the Shazam adds a lace cover and extra support for high-speed downhill riding.Through an extensive R & D program guided with input from professional riders, Sombrio has come up with a new rubber compound. It uses a proprietary molecular structure developed specifically for use with flat pedals. This high-friction compound with FS Performance technology not only offers incredible grip to pedals and terra firma, its durometer helps it conform to pedals and provide a tangible interface. You'll know exactly where your foot lands for unmatched sense of position. The soles' shape and sidewall is also slightly rockered for an enhanced connection to the pedal-to-shoe interface. With that much attention given to the compound and sole shape, one might think the logo'd lugs are just an embellished afterthought. However, Sombrio found that the lugs, when cast positively, hooked traction pins. The added connection to the pedals reduces the chance for a slipped foot. Sombrio didn't stop there either. The outsoles are void of catch points -- it's the same pattern throughout. This provides a consistent feel for excellent foot position and dexterity to the pedals.Heel and arch support is provided by molded perforated polyurethane insole, what Sombrio calls Dura4rm. The inserts are antimicrobial, breathable, and lightweight. Most importantly though, the shock-absorbing Dura4rm absorbs impacts to help avoid injury on bailouts, and it prevents heel lift when pedaling. Crashes are inevitable, and the Shazam's leather uppers are tough enough to take a beating. The Sombrio Shazam Mid Shoes are available in the colors Black or Charcoal/tan/charcoal.

True to size ( for reference, I wear 8.5 w/ Adidas, Puma and Nike sneakers). Lace covers a big plus. This my first mtb specific flat shoes and def has a stiffer sole than the Circa skate shoes I started with.

Grippy paired w/ Deity Comp pedals. Didn't slip once going over logs and rock gardens. I never had problems un-clipping w/ my clipless set-up but didn't like "hunting" to clip-in on start. Also the sole has better grip on the trail if you have to hike it or bail at a critical point (on skinnies, etc) - it's a confidence booster..

I never tried the 5-10s but on a side-by-side comparison, these looks less bulky and is spec'ed lighter in weight. Only a few rides so far, so durability test in on-going. 5 chilli's for value cause I got mines for less than $50. A couple of friends bought and like 'em as well.
