    Strength:

They stop my 200+lb butt on a steel 2x9 and they are pretty quiet to boot.

    Weakness:

Probably weight but I haven't weighed them, specifically.

Overall, I'm satisfied and I have used other mechanical brakes. I have Tektro Novela brakes on a singlespeed and those were ok, but required more distance to stop and they were stupid-heavy. These Hayes MX4s stop me really well and they're virtually silent. Also, the rotors look cool.

Junk. Been a bike mechanic and can restore motorcycles to new condition. this brake is definitely not a keeper...i ride every day in everything, snow, rain, sleet, hot weather...they squeal all the time, take constant adjustment and are not a good brake. The strength is you can throw them away.

    Weakness:

    nothing more to add

    Strength:

reliable breaking system on on road or off road | on downhill or on flat, last for a bout 2years on a weekend warrior, on a semi annual epic, long distance biking like 400KM in one trip.

    Weakness:

difficult to look for a replacement break pad | mostly not available on local store | sometimes out of stock.

nice breaking system, easy to align the wheel when removing and fixing it back due to one side breaking system.

    Strength:

Good stopping power and very affordable

    Weakness:

When wet they squall and the smooth stopping goes way down, it's either no stop or locked up. The caliper only squeezes from 1 side, and the pads are hard to find.

It's an ok brake for your commuter bike or super light trail riding. Would definitely not recommend for any sort of upgrade.

    Strength:

No complaints about stopping power. Many complaints about everything else.

    Weakness:

Even when adjusted and lubed the best possible way these brakes drag. The piston is sticky and only pinches from one side. It works by deflecting the disk toward a stationary pad on the other side. Cheap to make and crappy to use.

Like many of the other commenters have noted these brakes squeak loudly, especially when wet, which is all the time if you live in Oregon. Because they drag/squeak all the time, you HATE them ALL THE TIME. At least you get a better workout when you ride because the brake pad that moves is always in contact with the disk no matter how much you fiddle with it.

This caliper came on my wife's mid to low-pricepoint Kona and I wish they had cut costs elsewhere because this brake is just terrible. Did I mention that it drags and is LOUD as hell?

Don't ever buy one of these or, if someone attempts to give you one, don't accept. Don't pick one up if you see one on the ground, just walk/ride on by. When I replace this one, I'm going to smash it with a hammer.

good stopping power. good for on road on a dry day (otherwise makes a horrid sound)

    Weakness:

nightmeare to maintain the rear brake is always locking up i have tried oiling it but it still seems to screw up !.one night i was out riding and suddenly my rear brake faild i thought it would be a simple fix so when i got home i took of the rear wheel and thats when i discoverd the magnet from the rear brake all over the disk and tail of the bike it is not the easyest part to get you'r hands on eather so now i have to buy a new set of brakes and i can tell ya it wont be the hayes. i would not recomend thease brakes for off road users.when wet they make the most horrid noise !

thease brakes can not take a good thrashing so thearefor i would not recomend thease to off road users but would moste likely be perfect for on road users.

    Strength:

They make the bike STOP! I've used these for almost 3 years now on my commuter setup (about 120k per week) I have only had to replace pads once. I'm not zipping down any death defying mountains with them but I can tell they sure come in handy on a rainy morning when a 50' multi-ton bus decides to cut you off when your at a decent speed. They are very easy to maintain.

    Weakness:

If properly maintained I wouldn't expect any problems. Keeping the rotors clean is half the battle.

I wish I could convince every commuter to use discs, so much safer!

    Cheap

    Weakness:

Easy to break, bend its discs, starts making a weird noise in the first few days, dont buy.

These brakes suck. If they come on your bike, dont be surprised if you break them. Never buy these if you are buying aftermarket parts because it is NOT worth it.
