Strength:

5000 - new models have re-enginered chain stay to lower the possibility of failure.

Weakness:

When they fixed the chain stay weakness, they also changed the front geometery and lost alot of staight line tracking and handeling that I purchased the bike for.

1st Fat bike was a Pugsley - heavy and loose handeling, front end geometry allows for loose tracking and alot of lost of forward momemtum when you want to stand up and crank some perfect circles to get power to the ground.

2nd was a 2015 KHS 5000 with 80mm Mulefutss and a set of Bud and Lou's. Bike rocked!!! Light , Fast, and great Handeling. BAD THING - chain stay shatered when the Lou tire hooked up while climbing a hill in 25* Temps.

3rd fatty was the 2017 5000 - did not like the handling and replaced it with a El Marchi for long summer gravel rides.

Adding a Salsa Blackborow to the bike quiver for the winter of 2016/17

Strength:

Adjustable wheel base, tru axles

Weakness:

would be nice if it was lighter, tru axle inters on the right into the wheel.

I bought a 2015 3000 season for 1080.00 that was a rental bike.I test road it thinking I would only ride it during the winter. I took off the vee 4.8 tires and put on panaracers 4.0 fat b 12 psi ,could not make them tubeless, running lite weight 21 " motorcycle tubes, Lower the gearing with a sunrace 11-40 gearing. It climbs better than my Niner Jet, with the 29 on some steep climbs I have to power up and over to make it and take a short break due to very heavy breathing. With the fat bike I can craw up the steep climbs & keep going without a break. I can also take tight, rock & sandy switch back that I can't do on any other bike.Go Fat or Go Home! Once you go fat your never go back!

Strength:

Swift and fast, yet strong and sturdy

Weakness:

Not many color options. Weak.

Sweet ride that outshines most other bikes with twice the price tag. KHS really delivered a strong product with the 5000. You really can't go wrong with it.
