Pivot Cycles LES 27.5 27.5 Hardtail

DESCRIPTION

The 29er fans among us will be loathe to admit it, but 27.5-inch wheels have proven that they're not just a fad. In fact, already with a string of elite level XC victories this year, there's a strong case to be made that the mid-sized wheels are the fastest option on dirt. So if you're...

Strength:

Light, responsive, and incredibly fun to ride. Huge BB gives snappy acceleration, yet there is enough flex in the seatstays that some days I would swear it has flex. Still loved the bike after Butte100 (100 miles, mostly singletrack, 16K feet of climbing).

Weakness:

Still looking for a weakness

Strength:

Light, incredible torsional rigidity, feels strong. accelerates like a banshee, carves curves like a knife.

Weakness:

As with any painted carbon frame, when you crash, they scratch.

Mine is built up different than the bike in this review, I built it from the ground up with top shelf parts, I love this bike.

Strength:

The frame including the bottom bracket, headset cups, seatpost clamp and derailleur hanger weighs 2.76 pounds(medium size). Big plus on the lack of heft. Steep climbs require less effort than 29ers. Quick handling but also stable with the 69.25 head angle. Soaks up rocks at speed better than one would think a carbon hardtail could. Internal cable routing made easy with removable bottom plate. Direct mount front derailleur is a nice touch for a quick installation of the FD. Bike cleans up easily.

Weakness:

Not a weakness but would like to see the rear brake line support tabs underneath the left seat stay instead of
on top.
stock Shimano bb has lots of drag

Bike build up right at 21.7 including a water bottle cage and gps. Pacenti tl28 rims with hope rear hub and nuke proof front hub. Race face turbine 22,32,40 and a xtr 11-36 rear. Magura mt-6 brakes. Upgraded the high drag shimano bb to an enduro bearing set up. Fox kashima cdt 100mm fork is a bit of a let down. Rave reviews by the press but not worth the money. Maybe after some massaging they will work better. Running an 80mm stem at 685 width on the bars Pedals are the carbon non ti Time atac. Fun bike to ride. Climbing hills is so much less effort than a dually 29er. Have to work the descents more but since 70% of the time is spent climbing the trade off is worth it. I do plan to get LB 35mm rims to add more air volume and comfort. Even with the 28mm rims, the bigger contact patch over the narrow rims(past 650b bike) is noticeable.
Shorter and lighter riders will enjoy the Les 275. A hardtail that accelerates fast but absorbs bumps well. Suggest to demo a 275 whether it is a Turner Flux or a Les 275, the wheel size is a good compromise.
