Strength:

Clean the bejabbers out of that filthy chain! Easy to assemble and use. Handy brush for cleaning gears included. Fast.

Weakness:

Buying this automatically qualifies you for the Dweeb Hall of Fame. Overkill. Messy. Slide on handle is permanent and makes it so you can't put the thing back in the box. Consider leaving it off.

Indispensable for the anal retentive road biker. Not actually necessary to have a well-maintained bike. I was pretty surprised at how much grime came off my reasonably clean chain. It was filthy and ran better after I used this. It spatters quite a bit, so take to heart that stuff in the directions about spreading newspaper underneath bike.

This is a very good gift for a biker. The guy probably won't own one, yet he would probably use it if you gave it to him. Just don't expect him to talk it up with his riding pals.

Strength:

Simple design but works great

Weakness:

None so far

I've gone through many different chain cleaners, but so far this is the best performing and easiest to clean out. The magnet at the bottom of the reservoir is a bonus, gathers all the metallic particles, reduces gunk buildup on the brushes as you clean the chain...brilliant.

Strength:

Cleans the chain VERY VERY well leaving no funky dirty stuff. It really does the job perfectly.

Weakness:

Some spill. I put a couple of layers of old newspaper under the bike stand just to be sure.

The bottom line is: go buy it. Yes, go buy it if you want to clean your chain often and have worry free drivedraint. Go buy it if, even if it's simple, you don't like to take the chain off and soak it overnight.

I ride my commuting bike in the snow, salt and calcium all winter long and it can be really hard on your drivetrain. This little machine is so simple to use that I clean my chain once or twice a week. It avoids me countless chain changes and drivetrain failures.

Use with a good bio degreaser. I use MEC's bio d. Works good, but I'd like to try Park's degreaser.

I mean, it's so simple and works so good I can't find any REAL weaknesses to this product. Spills can be avoided if you manipulate carefully. The chain WILL drip afterwards, that is why I put newspapers underneath the drivetrain. But dripping is good, 'cause all the grime and gunk is going down while your chain is drying clean.

Wait about 10 mins after use, dry the 4 sides of the chain with a rag, lube and enjoy a nice and clean chain.

5 chilis for sure.

Strength:

Easy to use, does the job that it is intended to do.

Weakness:

While easy to use there does seem to be a bit of an art to using it.

Maybe I am just terribly coordinated (Not!) but I find this an excellent product to use, including the handle that so many seem to dispise. I admit that my first attempt to use it was less than totally successful with lots of spilled degreaser but later attempts seemed to go fine with minimal spillage.

This cleans the chain very well. It is much neater than the alternative of soaking and cleaning with a toothbrush. I think it is also much more thorough in cleaning. And it is certainly faster.

Strength:

Cleans pretty well.

Weakness:

Product sloshes cleaning fluid out onto floor, pins on brushes fall out, plastic housing of unit develops "crazing" lines over time from reaction to cleaning fluids.

This product is a decent unit for cleaning chains. However, its durability is suspect when the plastic housing starts developing extensive cracking marks due to its interaction with cleaning solutions such as diluted simple green, even where the solution is thoroughly washed out after use. The sponge in the front of the unit is useless in preventing solution from sloshing out and the pins continually falling out of the brushes is a pain. All in all, two to three stars. I'll round up, to be generous.

Works better than the old toothbrush! It does work good. Worth the money if you like a clean chain

Weakness:

Spills cleaner on the floor, sponge full quickly, need to do it more than once (like 3-5 times) for a clean chain. The brush axles will start to rust.

This certainly beats the old way. Make sure you: a) have a mat under it when using it b)use a non-foaming cleaner c)when done, dry everything. It's worth the money, though.

Strength:

Cleans it up nice, with little effort

Weakness:

If you're a clutz, it takes some practice

1. Messy? Not as messy as squirting simple verde and
scrubbing with an oral b. Make sure your chain is
parallel to the ground (as the instructions indicate)
Tilt your bike in the workstand.
2. Difficult? Only if you are completely uncoordinated.
It's not rocket science, folks. If you are that bad
off, get a buddy to turn the crank while you hold
scrubber, then schedule yourself for the next available
labotomy.
3. This tool does exacly what it is designed to do, and
does it well. Read the instructions provided (don't
just look at the pictures on the box). If used with the
Park's Chain Brite solvent provided, you've got
yourself a clean chain

Strength:

Easy to handle and clean up. Cleans the chain almost as good as taking the bike to the shop, but I don't have to take the chain off the bike to do it.

Weakness:

Occasionally grabs the chain and spills cleaner... but then again, the cleaner is a liquid, so it's got to be expected.

If you're looking for a product that will help you save your chain over the long haul, this is the one. I use it at least once a week, depending on riding and conditions. It keeps my chain clean which helps keep the rest of the driveline clean and unbound. Well worth the investment. Also, it was suggested by the shop where I got my bike and the cleaner (check with your shop on this too) that I should let the sediment settle for 24 hours before straining it through a coffee filter so I can use the fluid again.

SUPER effective cleaning, convenience, ease of use

Weakness:

handle falls off easily, top brush wheel can also fall out

Not sure what folks are complaining about regarding mess. I spilled a bit the first time I used it, but after that, no problems. A few drips, but what do you expect--you're running the chain through degreaser. I put a piece of cardboard under the chain and have never had an issue with 'mess'. This thing beats the crap outta cleaning your chain by hand. Lean it against a wall, or better yet, buy a stand! 4 for value (could be cheaper) and 4 for overall (5's are rare).
