Lezyne Super Drive Lights

DESCRIPTION

The Lezyne Super Drive LED is a super-bright 450 Lumen front light for on and off-road use. Uniform Power Beam reflector and lens assembly produce a dual-purpose beam pattern that illuminates both near and far terrain without sacrificing visibility in either field of vision, while the lens hood directs light away from the rider's eyes.

Strength:

Plenty bright for commuting or riding singletrack. Easy off and on mount. Solid

Weakness:

Had an issue when removing the charge cord the light would start to blink like it was charging and would not turn on. Sent the light into Lezyne. The said their tests indicated nothing was wrong. When returned the problem continued. I sent another email with no reply. I learned by playing around that if I pulled the battery and then put back in the problem stopped and the light worked. Lame, but works for now.

Hope yours doesn't do this. Probably won't be buying Lezyne again.

Strength:

Bright and reasonably wide beam for trail riding - when it works.
Replaceable battery.

Weakness:

Battery issues: light flickers while riding bumpy roads. Sometimes battery did not charge fully.
Plastic swivel mount is slippery and light turns left/right while riding.
Lezyne's customer service is slow and warranty (RMA) useless.

I've had this light for 6 months and probably went on 20-some night rides with it. It's got a bright-enough LED that allows you to cruise single track and fast 4x4 roads using the medium to high setting. With replaceable batteries, it seemed like the perfect solution for all-night races.
Unfortunately, the light has issues with flickering and changing brightness dim, then bright, then dim... while mountain bike riding. Even placing it on a wooden bench made the light go crazy.
After 4 weeks of emails/calls with Lezyne warranty service, their RMA consisted of them not finding anything wrong on the test bench. The return shipping was delayed without any reason for 8 days, when in fact, I had been told that it had been shipped.
A friend of mine also bought this light and was not able to charge the battery fully after one night (i.e. it was still blinking in the morning, indicating that it's charging).

$100 out the window.

YMMV.

the light is super bright and works great. beam is clear and strong. what you get for the price is well worth it. build quality and materials are great.

Weakness:

battery life could be better. but if not used in full power the life is pretty average with other lights.

over the light is functional and works great. it feels like quality with no plastics. although my first light was defective, the replacement has held up just fine. i have to other riding buddies that have the same and our lights have held up just fine. i might have over paid a bit from the average price that people have posted, but i wanted my light quick and figured i would support my LBS.

My Lezyne Micro Floor Drive HPG called my attention on Lezine's super quality, then I gave a chance to this light, here IS NOT DISAPOINTMENT. I bought a second light with the helmet mount ($ 19.95 on BikeBling), after that I'm using only the one on the helmet is good enough on my riding conditions.
I'm a happy costumer.

No helmet mount, not to be used as flashlight!

This is a very nice little light! I used it for a 24 hour adventure race and was impressed. The high setting is great when you are going fast and in the lead. If you are following you can easily turn it down a notch. Battery lasted longer than advertised and spares are easy to carry. Great simple mounting design.

Strength:

Light output, price (even though I received them as gifts), and weight

Weakness:

Mount and lack of mount options.

Love the lights, just need to figure out how to mount them better. The left to right adjustment is a nice idea but only works on smooth road conditions. A Helmet mount would be a nice option too. The light spreads out nice and evenly and works well for some light off trail riding on the high setting. It seems like it might need more light for much more than that but I haven't had the opportunity to use it more than that just yet.

Strength:

Size, Weight and Light Output. All these are top notch in my opinion. Lumen amount for the price is very good.

Weakness:

Only complaint I have is: The light indicates it is charging even when a USB is plugged into the unit's charge port, but the USB cable isn't plugged into any charging port on a computer or wall plug. It thinks it is charging with no power input being applied.

The bottom line is, this light is fantasic. I am amazed how bright this light is for road cycling at night and the flash mode is excellent for daytime visibility for drivers. For off road use, it works very well also. To have 2 would even be better. Can't ever have too much light for off road riding. The weight of the unit and the mount is a mere 128g for the amount of light output with no external battery needed to be used. All self contained and no wires. What is very nice is the battery is replaceable which means, years from now when a battery is at it's life end of charge cycles, I don't have to open up the unit and try to find a replacement battery or worse by another light since the battery is not replaceable. I can easily pick up another battery and have a new light all over since LED's almost last forever. There is a great benefit also to have extra light when you need it if you are going to be out longer than a single battery can last. Other than the weird false charging issue that isn't a big deal. This is the best light in this size that I know of. I plug in the light and leave it charging over night and it is fine. The instructions say this is fine to do and won't overcharge the battery. A charge level indicator would be nice, but isn't a deal killer for me.
