Sunshine Bicycle Co, - Bikeshops, Clemson, Carolina

DESCRIPTION

Shop changed ownership in summer 05 and since then has been a steady decline. Currently it takes weeks to recieve an ordered item, employees dont know how to work on bikes, much less fit someone onto one. Employees are pushy with sales and shop is messy and disorganized.
Bottom line: If all you need to do is pick up a tube they are a fair shop. If you need mechanic work or want to ask some questions to someone who knows something about bikes, your time would be better spent driving to Anderson or Greenville.

Pulled into the parking lot and parked in the only spot available only to be immediately told by a guy that followed me in the lot who claimed to work there that I had parked in his spot and needed to move. I pulled out the lot never to return.

WAY OVERPRICED!!!! I got a check-up and it cost me $300!! My bike didn't even look that nice after. Be aware!! If you want a check up, go somewhere else.

Shopped seemed to be fairly neat and orderly. Behind the counter you can see the employees working on bikes.

Customer Service

Just picked up my bicycle today from Sunshine after having a tube in the rear tire replaced. Service was quick (dropped off the previous day around 5pm, done at by 10:30am the next day). Staff seemed to be knowledgeable and friendly. Price and the labor was pretty standard ($5.99 part and $5.00 labor). They also said they'd run through the gears to make sure everything was fine. And they also said they have a $25 tune up service.

My second time back there and I will definitely be a returning customer.

Worst shop in the upstate...do without before you have to rely on these guys. Designed to overcharge unknowing Clemson University students, especially freshman buying an entry level bike with a $100 mark up from normal retail. Everything is marked up and the selection and quality is sub-par at best. They will lie to you for months about a part that should have been there in 2 days. This has happened to me several times when I was a student, and several friends have reported the same problem...waiting on a part that never arrives due to their ineptitude, and eventually finding a different shop to handle their needs. The repair work is usually pricey, sub-par, and generally has to be taken right back in to be repaired from where they repaired it. Its unfortunate that these people cant see the incredible opportunity they have in a college town with one of the best trail networks (Isaqueena) in South Carolina within 5 minutes. I have been in and out of the shop for over 10-12 years and have never been satisfied. The previous owner wasnt as bad as the current owner, but neither did a good job of providing even an average bike shop. These guys cant maintain their business for long before the shop will have to close. Do yourself a favor and travel to Anderson or Greenville for a better shop...the extra drive will be worth more than dealing with such a terrible shop
