Very busy on weekends.

Customer Service

Left my totaled bike for an insurance estimate. They never read/responded to email sent prior to scheduled appointment. Didn't do work at scheduled appointment time due to a question they never bothered to call me about. Never called to tell me if the job was or wasn't done so job wasn't done when I arrived for pickup. After brief discussion outlining the conflicting info I was given from staff members resulting in the job not being done the job was done quickly while I waited.

When I arrived home I realized a part from the bike was removed. I called to ask about it and never received follow up. Why??? Quite The Fail.

Shop looks nice, clean, well stocked.

Customer Service

Poor.

I knew what bike I wanted, the Dahon Jack. Belmont called in for me confirming Somerville had it in stock, in small. I took it for a test drive.

It was busy and the only salesperson I could get was this bearded fellow, Nathan. He didn't know anything about any of the folders, which would have been OK if he wasn't dismissive about my questions, and if he wasn't constantly trying to steer me towards a Trek bike despite my confidence in my choice. He made negative comments about the bike despite previously admitting not knowing much about them. It was the car dealer pressure treatment.

I asked him to check availability of this bike in Medium, and he said NO. Hmm, you don't understand.. I want to order this in Medium. He said no, it's a pain to check availability on these and I should look at the Trek..

I walked out, and ordered my the very same bike online from another shop. Ironically I got TWO.. one in size small for my wife. I wasn't going to go back.

As you can see from other reviews, not everyone had the bad experience I did. I'd suggest visiting when it's less busy.

The shop is tightly packed, but in a good way making great use of space.
I just drove 40 miles (the local bike shops in NH stock fewer bikes), having made a quick stop at the Belmont branch of the store.

Staff sent me on a test drive without a helmet. I'm not an experienced rider but the neighborhood is very easily biked.

Easy walking distance to Red Bones. :)

Customer Service

POOR.

I knew what bike I wanted, and Belmont called in for me confirming Somerville had it in stock. It probably wasn't my size, but I needed to be fitted anyways.

At Somerville store I tried out the Dahon Jack. It's not a high end bike, but it's seriously convenient which was a trait important to me.

The problem was, the whole time I was asking questions about the bike, the clerk (Nathan 2, the bearded one) was both uninformed (which happens) and *dismissive* about my choice. It was the car dealer pressure treatment.

Finally I had to ask "Please stop. I *want* this bike. I want to have it ordered for me. Please"

At which point I got mumblings about "`taking forever from Japan` and `maybe there wouldn't be any more until next year`.". I kid you not.
I couldn't get anyone else for help as the store was packed on a 80F sunny day.. I walked out.

I have to wonder how many fewer Dahons and Montague bikes they sell. Why stock them if some employees resist or despise them? I can honestly say, they sold 1 less than they could have and I have a receipt from Performance Bike which proves it.

The kinder cousin of Belmont. Ace has a different clientele than Belmont Wheelworks and the attitudes of its employees shows that. They are great for the most part. I think this is the best shop in the Cambridge area. You have the best chance at getting a decent answer to a question. I bought these guys a six pack of Harpoon for their goodness one time. I like 'em. Go there. They aren't perfect- but the staff seems to stay- so you aren't starting over again every time you walk through the door.

I had limited experience with Ace Wheelworks until I purchased a new Ibis mountain bike from them. There were many changes from the stock factory build, and they were very patient with numerous revisions and sudden change-of-hearts that I had during the process of spec'ing out the bike. Once the bike arrived, a considerable amount of time was spent building up the bike correctly - they wouldn't rush it unnecessarily - and also with setting me up on the bike. This included both fit as well as suspension setup.

Then... I had a problem with the bike. The headset came loose basically every 45 minutes of riding. I brought the bike in once and they checked everything over, acknowledging they could have installed it incorrectly, and didn't find anything amiss, AND spotted me with a replacement loaner stem on the off chance that the stock stem was the cause of the problem. Since that quick check did not resolve the problem, I brought the bike in again and they made calls to Ibis, the fork manufacturer, and the headset manufacturer to figure out the issue. Wheelworks then came up with the fix, explained to me the pros and cons, and then made the change to some internal headset parts in order to get everything to work. A few dozen hours of riding time later, it is clear that the change they made worked - no more headset problems.

The way in which they diagnosed and fixed the problem was great.

I would highly recommend anyone looking at a high end bike to go to Ace Wheelworks, as they have a very knowledgeable and professional staff and were very helpful throughout the whole process.
