I've purchased 4 frames from Scott @ SMC over the years and have had nothing but very positive experiences! Very helpful, knowledgable, and will get you what you need- I can't ask for more than that. Great shop!

So, I guess I should contribute. The history is that I bought a 2011 Roubaix from the shop, which cqame equipped with SRAM group. hate that SRAM garbage. Anyway I called the shop, and asked for a quote to replace the SRAM group with all Shimoano 105. The quote was 690.00, great I say, order the parts, I will be in to give you some cash to secure the parts. So I gave them 350.00 down and that was uneventful, and continued the rest of my day. After about a week goes by and I call to see where my parts are. the reply was "not all in yet, give ya call when they arrive". okay I say thank you. Another week goes by, and so I call again (since they hadn't), "Oh we are waiting on the brakes, the distributor is backordered. Should be here midweek though, give you a call when they arrive" About another week goes by and no call, and so I call them again. "parts are in, come on in when you want them out put on". awesome I say, I will be in Monday morning. So I show up monday morning, the "technician" fills out my pickup slip, and says be ready later that day. I say "no hurry for today, I will busy with my son all day, so early tommorrow is just fine". And now things get a bit more interesting. Bike not ready next day at 11am. I go get lunch. Bike not ready 12pm, I wait. Bike ready around 1pm, and take a quick little ride. Close enough I say (there adjustments are never great at this shop, so be prepared to do it all over again yourself). And now the grande finale. I supposedly owed 340.00 (+tax) on my bikes refit. But no wait, the remainder is actually 539.00 (+82 dollars for a new seat) for an additional 621.00 instead of 422.00 (including the new seat). I am like WTF???!!! The poor "technicians" response was "Oh we forgot to include the brakes in the estimate. we forgot to include the new bar tape in the estimate, forgot to include the labor for wrapping the bar tape. We were wrong in the labor for the estimate. I have had 3 bad experiences at this shop now. I am sorry, but I walked out of there feeling like a complete idiot, and felt like I had been had. That wont happen again at SMC. I think the shop sells great bikes, and they do, but selling a great bike doesnt make a great shop. Great service, and repairs make a great shop. Sorry, I cant recommend this shop to anyone at all. It is my fault, I should have asked the clarifying questions, But, I actually trusted the shop to be accurate and fair to its customers. I left more than disappointed. I also get to re-adjust everything their fledgling mechanincs attempted to get done. And also chack that all of your parts are tight. My first day with my brand new Roubaix, everything rattled and was loose. More work for me I guess

Ahwatukees best shop that deals primarily Specialized, because it is the best product bar none! IMO

Customer Service

Great, very detailed and knowlegable about the products they stock. Not overly pushy on the sales side, but very friendly.

I have bought several bikes here in the past year. The support you recieve before and after buying a bike here is by far the best. They literally drop anything they are doing to help you get back on the trail or road faster. Also, they go to races and wrench on your bikes, provide support, and are just all around a great group of guys all the way up to the owner, who takes the best photographs at each race and posts them for free! The 2 pro riders in there are super cool, and very open to provide suggestions for race setup, strategies etc. You will never regret spending a dollar at ths store.

I was recently in Phoenix for a couple weeks for vacation and some winter riding. I visited South Mountain Bikes three times while I was there-- I travel a lot with my bike and they are one of the best bike shops I've been to in a long time.
During the three visits they:
--re-installed a Brain shock I had just gotten shipped back to me from Fox (and noticed and replaced a missing washer)
--re-bled a brake line another shop had badly messed up, making my brakes feel better than they had for months
--noticed my fork seal was blown, then rebuilt my fork so it was butter smooth
--informed me that my fork stanchions were almost worn out and agreed with me about how sad that was
--sold me a pair of pink Hope Mono Minis :)
--trued my wheel after I shredded a bit too much gnar on National
--mounted non-UST tires in like two seconds
--had super-fast service time turnaround
--shot the breeze about local trails
--were SUPER nice to me, and didn't treat me like I didn't know anything about mountain bikes just because I'm a woman.
AWESOME shop! great wrenches and great sales guys.

Overated shop that too good to be helpful to begginers

Customer Service

I live right behind and have been to this LBS 3 times. Each time even though I was the the only person in the store I was ignored by the staff. I guess they chose to ignore me becuase I am a fatty. Never mind that I had $1500.00 burning a whole in my pocket looking to get back into MT Biking.

SMC, is "the best" bike shop in Arizona! I have been visiting bike shops in the state since 2005 and there is no question about it, SMC is the best! I will always recommend to anybody that I know to go to SMC since they will take absolute care of you. Not only towards your servicing needs, but they are a living cycling encyclopedia and pro-riders themselves. If you buy a bike from them, they will absolutely accommodate any of your needs, respect every warranty you have, and for the lack of a better word, they are AWESOME!

"SMC is the best"

Customer Service

I bought a '09 Specilized Stumpjumoper 29er Comp from them with a five year extended warranty and for some reason I got lucky and started having problems straight away... To cut a very long and detailed story short, as a result of their service I continue to love Specialized, not only for the very good relationship they have with Specialized (a phone call away) but for their care towards me and my riding experience. Now I have an upgraded 2010 frame, upgrade wheel set and hub, plus it is always running in excellent condition thanks to the innumerable times I have had to take my bike in after a race or a hard ride to readjust settings, without any extra fees. I love riding my bike and it is all thanks to SMC. They are AWESOME!

Erik, the owner I believe... is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to anything that has to do with riding bikes, but also a very nice person that will take the time to explain things in layman terms and get you understanding the pros and cons of what ever is that you are questioning him about. Craig, is the best bike mechanic I have encounter and also a very nice and patient person when it comes to dealing with your bike, I know, because my bike is in there all the time! Plus they have fantastic no interest financing programs and extended warranties that you want to have when riding a mountain bike in Arizona, rocky as hell! things will brake and or fail, their KPP program is phenomenal! I am proud to recomend SMC to you or anybody, and I promise you, you will not want to take your bike anywhere else ever again!

Expensive and over priced

Customer Service

I see this store has gotten nothing but good reviews. This amazes me because when I walked in there as a first timer looking for some help on buying a bike no one would help me. The guys there seemed more interested in chit-chatting with each other and some customer about personal stuff. I waited patiently and finally gave up. I was pissed because bikes are not cheap and you can just go out and buy what ever. To top it off that store is expensive. I went to a place in Tempe and the people where nice and knew what they were talking about. So what if SMC is 5 minutes from my house, they did not make an inpression.

South Mountain Cycles is a Specialized dealer in the Ahwatukee/South Mountain area near my home.

Customer Service

I was greeted, treated well as soon as I came in the door. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable, not pushy or rude.

I'm coming back to mountain biking after a very long lapse and I was never a very serious rider. But some friends who are more serious riders got me interested and after reading about entry level bikes I was looking for a specialized dealer.

I'm a clydesdale and I've read reviews elsewhere of bike shops turning their nose up at bigger bikers. That was not the case when I visited this shop. I was greeted as soon as I came in the door. The staff was able to give me answers about the bikes I was interested in and they didn't try to push anything on me that I didn't need or want. I ended up buying an '07 Hardrock Sport that suits my limited needs as a reborn newbie. It was 20% off and I feel I got a good deal.

I'll definitely return to this shop, and they are already doing a tune up/repairs on my wife's Bianchi Advantage.

Great shop, excellent selection in a small space. I almost always find what I need in stock.

Customer Service

I've shopped here for years because of local. Customer service has been 50/50. Some trips, great people who are willing to help a, know nothing cyclist, such as me. Other trips, I get the pompous, self important type who gives short, inaccurate answers and seems to want me to shop elsewhere. Service has been the same 50/50. I would love it if they would keep their customer service act together, it would save me gas.
