Kewaunee Winter Park and DNR Land - TRAIL

Kewaunee Winter Park and DNR Land - Trail, Kewaunee, Wisconsin

Winter park is located on steep hillsides with many areas having to be bench cut. Most sections of winter are off-camber with uphill and downhill switchbacks (fun). Winter is about 97% dense forest. The DNR land is a mix of forested ravines and open meadow. The trails here are less steep and the off-camber degree isn't as much. In both areas there are small log crossings. As of 10-16-02 we are finishing up cutting in the trail at DNR land and installing bridges. By the way, there is another 3.25 miles of singletrack at the ATV park located 1/4 mile away. Hopefully a connecter link trail linking these two areas will combine create over 9 miles.

Winter Park still has some of the most exciting singletrack in Northeast Wisconsin, but unfrotunately the DNR land seems to be permanently closed. The ramining loop is only 3.5mi long, but give it a few loops and enjoy the workout. Love the climbs and decents, and the disc golf course there is TOP rated. Excellent place to enjoy multiple passions.

Customer Service

Follow the markings for the Red route (except for DNR closing). During the summer the grasses along the ski hill make the switchbacks there impassable, so when you reach the first open hilltop area cross and cut into the pines on your left to continue.

Up and down, twisty, all singletrack, usually in the woods. Enough off-camber and challenging situations to keep it interesting. Definitely worth the drive. Very much like 25.5, which is west of Madison.

Review: I have done my fair share of riding, and I have to admit, this is one of the best trails I ever ever ridden. The hill is technical enough to test both one's skill and endurance, yet not requiring a dismount during the entire trail. The trail is set within a small ski hill. This is the first time in the Midwest while riding that I had memories of when I was riding in Colorado. Don't get me wrong, the trails are not as long or has the elevation differential, but they are beatifully built with much variety and you will feel that you have accomplished something when you are finished!!!! It is definitely worth the drive. I ran into a couple people from the eastern aspect of the states who stated they have never ridden anything quite like it. Enjoy!!!!!! Definitely a top rated trail!!!!!

Customer Service

As everyone else states, the red loop is a must.

this trail is great , did the red loop last weekend but it got dark, going back soon. there are lots of uphill switch backs{my small chainring malfunctioned so i didn't have my granny gears} but still very fun. There is fun rolling terrain, lots of tree dodging.Very Very Very fun trail the best in WI that I have been to, except "maybe" anvil. The ski hill bomb trail is fun.Great job done be the trail builders.

These are some nice trails with quite a workout in store for you. It starts out with a hefty climb up into a densely wooded area with some fun tight singletrack. There is a lot of switchbacks that occur most of the time on an incline.

Customer Service

Take the red route (the long one) and if you have any energy left take one of the shorter routes for kicks

Can't say enough about this trail! 98% single track with tough climbs and downhill switchbacks. The trails are tight and require a lot of attention due to off camber sections, sharp turns and "a little" danger from an occasional steep slope (relatively speaking) next to the trail that could ruin a good day should you fall. Total trail length (Red trail) measured approx 7.1 miles. Do not expect long straight stretches to open up and hall A-- in your large front ring, as mentioned before, this is technical riding at its finest. I would be very surprised to see any Huffy's out there :) Scenery is excellent with mostly wooded sections which break into grassy meadows. The trail winds it way in out of the valleys in the area with an occasional good view of where you were and where you are going. Trails are almost free of rocks and have an occasional log and/or plank bridge. Well worth the ride to the area!! Some of the best single track you are going to find.

Customer Service

Red trail is a must. Haven't done the green, yellow, or white. The atv trails are nearby which could be used to extend the ride length. The atv trails are part of the WORS Kewaunee race. Unknown if connector trail is complete between the two.

beware of the start at winter park....I suggest a warm up before going in (its all uphill) I've ridden this system 4Xs this season...I get my legs on at Riverview, then break, then enjoy heaven at WP...I like it here so much I will ride the 6hour race (they have a 12 and 3 hour too) Aug. 16 as part of the WEMS series. Come out a ride that day, or better yet, race with me

These trails were some of the most demanding and fun trails I have been on. The entire ride is a nonstop switchback with plenty of off camber stuff to keep you on your toes. The day I went, the trail surface was a little wet which added to the difficulty. Easily the best trails I have ridden on in Wisconsin.

Great place to ride. Basically a large ravine. Long switchbacks. Mild uphills. Dodge trees. Great place to build some danger!
