Davis / Canaan XC Course - Trail, Davis, Virginia

Davis / Canaan XC Course - Trail, Davis, Virginia

DESCRIPTION

There are a number of different trails all interconnecting. You can do a short loop, long loop or criss cross the trails and ride up to half a day by taking different routes. Couldn''t get anyone to tell me the names of the trails but they are all marked and regardless of the direction you take it would be difficult to get lost. Most will dump you out on Camp 70 Road which starts at Davis and dead ends about 5 or 6 miles from Davis following the Blackwater River. There was not literature on these trails but they were used in July 2005 as a race course. Check with Blackwater Bikes and they can direct you.

The trail at Canaan Valley and the Davis area are great. Lots of great paths for all skill levels and beautiful scenery to go along with it. If anyone is looking for a place to stay, go check out http://funinwestvirginia.com/ . They offer some great places for really affordable prices.

This place rocks!! My cousin and i spent an entire day riding here and still covered every trail. Moon rocks is the best and the view Hoo Doo is amazing. You can make this a very easy ride on the nice flowing orange routes all the way to the XX trails or proceed into the technical stuff and test your skills. This is a great area for riders of all level.

Customer Service

Park in the parking lot along camp 70 road ( kinda hidden look for the sign in the parking lot) about a mile or so along the road. go right out of the lot and just about 20 yds up the road is an easy trail access. Go to Blackwater Bikes in town and get a map before you head out because the trails can turn you around really quick. any route from here is good but i would take the orange out to the XX and then take the upper trail back for a beginner or proceed into the XX for the experts.

The trails here just seem to get better every time I get up there. Roger at Blackwater Bikes has been a key to creating new trails and keeping the present trails maintained.

There have been a few new trails added since I first posted this information. Great set of trails in this area. The new trail from the HooDoo Rocks area is awesome. It comes out on Camp 70 Road right across from Camp Site #6 and goes through the backside of Campsite #7 (Gate numbers are not the site numbers).

Of course the HooDoo Rocks area and Moonrocks is the best. The lower trails are great for beginning riders or for those more experianced to add miles to a good loop.

Near the end of Camp 70 Rd., at the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, turn right, follow the trail to the river, cross the swinging bridge, go straight up the hill off the end of the bridge and follow this fire road up the mountain to Canaan Heights. Note: once you get to the Big Power Line right of way, turn left and ride up the power line to the next road up. (check out the view here), turn right go out past the radio tower and you are in Canaan Heights. Link up across Rt.32 with Plantation Trail to make loops without road miles.

Customer Service

Any, link trails together and ride all day.

Plantation Trail, Lindy Trail, Davis Trail, Park to Park (Allegheny Trail from Canaan Loop Rd. to Canaan Valley State Park.), several of the fire trails that spur off Plantation out to Canaan Loop, and Dobbin House trail.

The Technical rating and aerobic rating are for the HooDoo Rocks and Moonrock areas. The rest would rate about 2 technical and 3 aerobic.

Some of the best X-country terrain I've ever seen- it has everthing from technical climbs to stumps to sandstone slickrock (the Moon Rocks). In the right season the trails are even lined with tasty berries! A lot of the trails are currently being developed so don't be surprised if you come across a "raw" section that requires some route finding. Also, be aware that this terrain is not particularly easy and it's easy to get lost so start early and bring a map.

Rode these trails for about four weekends in a row. They are great. If some are not technical enough just head for the Moon Rocks and some awesome downhill. The Technical and Aerobic rating are only if you take the main trail all the way to the Moon Rocks and the downhill. The rest of the trails would get about a 3......

Customer Service

Go across the wooden bridge leading to Camp 70 road, in about 200 feet one trail goes to the left and follows Beaver Creek for a while. Or go just past that where Camp 70 road curves to the "RIGHT" no left. Go straight up what was once a wide double track. It soon turns into some awesome double track and leads you up the mountain a little at a time. See description at beginning for more details. I just forgot to rate these trails.

Of course if you are in the area you might as well try Plantation Trail, Lindy Run or Dobbin House.
