Canaan Loop Road - TRAIL

Canaan Loop Road - Trail, Davis, Virginia

This is a 26 mile loop ride on paved road and forest road. It goes around, up and down Canaan Mountain.
There are many side trails off the forest road for the more technical riders.
With a elevation change of over 1000 feet and hardly any traffic on the forest road this is a great workout.

This is a really nice forest road. If you start at the South and head North, you will coast the whole way pretty much. At mile 9, there is a trail to an awesome overlook. The only downside to this road is that the last 3-4 miles have a lot of pooling water that is sometimes a challenge to navigate around. There is a nice river that the ride sidles up to at one point and the loop road ends in Blackwater Fall State Park. You could shuttle it from here or take many trails over the mountain back to the forest road. The most scenic would be Lindy Run Trail. I have only hiked Lindy Run. I would imagine it to be a challenge on a bike. The forest road itself is only 18 miles I believe.

Excellent ride with a multitude of additional loops (if so desired). I call this the "gateway" to other trails.
