In it's day Japanese Gulch was an amazing place to ride. Most of the trails were built by a small group of local riders (myself included) Now days as far as I know there is no organization regularly maintaining these trails at all and it shows. Some sections have been blocked by trees, washed away or eroded, or overgrown.. All told there is over 20 miles of cris crossing songle track out there and if you know where to look it's all laced with dirt jumps and northshore inspired stunts which sadly have for the most part been destroyed in one form or another. More than a review, this is a request: These trails need help. I hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy these trails. If you've never ridden here, come check it out. If you ride here all the time, (like I do) consider taking maintainance into your own hands. If you see a section that's seen better days hike out there with a shovel sometime and fix it up. Maybe if we all chip we can restore this beautiful place.

I was a little upset at the quality of these trails considering it's on the BBTC's top ten trails in the Seattle area. They may have been good at one time, but as of July 8th, 2008, the trails are very overgrown with nettles in many places, and there's No Trespassing signs everywhere. Made it really hard to know what was safe to ride, and what was off limits legally. Certain areas of the trails were rideable without getting stuck with nettles constantly, but those sections hardly made the drive out worth it. Perhaps in the fall or early spring things are better, but I can see this place getting very slick when wet, and pretty much unridable as most of it is switchbacks on the sides of steep ravine walls. Even today after a very dry spell, parts of the trail that I had to climb were very slick, and super difficult to get up.

You can see the remains of lots of interesting looking stunts out there, but most have either been destroyed or the landings are so eroded that there's no way you'd risk it.

Customer Service

The top plateau trail on the west side was the most rideable today, though a few of the descents were ok in places too. Again, hard to recommend anything unless you have pants and long sleeves on to avoid the nettles and thorns creeping in on the trail everywhere.

Similar Products Used: St. Edwards in Kenmore has better trails, and is closer to the city. Less potential for stunts and freeriding, but there's stuff there if you know where to look. Hamlin Park in Shoreline was even better IMO.

This trail is amazing, the drops seem to be more of an issue for liabillity than a few jumps. That is neather hear nore their. I have always rode in from the bottom, which makes the way out alot of fun. I would like to find a good point from the top to enter.

The BEST Local trail, has something for everyone, the cross country, downhill, freeriders, ect. this trail is great on a dry week...when it has raind latly its fun to go on the flat parts but up the hills you slip to much to make climbing fun, great down hill spots and lots of areas to to w/e you want

Customer Service

if you like the downhill or wana go strait to the jumps ask a friend how to get to the top of the trail from the road, if you like climbing then do it on a dry day, get lost!

I live and ride in Bellingham so I know good riding - I can say that Japanese Gulch is the best metropolitan riding you'll find. It's a freaking playground! It kicks ass! I was smiling the whole time. I can't wait to go back. Go ride there! The more people that ride there, the better chance it has to fight off sprawl.

Customer Service

I have no idea - just go get lost.
