Manastash Ridge2 - Trail, Mt. Rainier, Washington

Manastash Ridge2 - Trail, Mt. Rainier, Washington

DESCRIPTION

From Crow Creek take the 941 trail upriver. This is a heavily used motorcycle trail, the other trails see somewhat less traffic. Turn right onto the 947 trail (about 5 miles) Climb 2400 feet on the 947 trail in 5.6 miles. This is mostly rideable except for the steeper switchback turns. It was in good shape in june, 2001. At the 4 way trail junction take the 1388 trail (to the right, east) The next 1.3 miles is the most technical section. At the next junction turn right again (still on the 1388) and ride a high and scenic ridge for 3.5 miles. Views of Taneum ridge, Mt. Rainier, and lots of forest. Descend 2900 feet on the 948 trail (another right turn). This trail has two very steep and dusty sets of switchbacks plus some loose slabby rock (brake burners). The 948 will bring you back down to the 941 trail. This ride took us 6 hours. Our pace is usually at the low end of times given in Zilly's guidebooks.
