Mud Dam Creek aka Rim Trail - Trail, Enumclaw, Washington

Mud Dam Creek aka Rim Trail - Trail, Enumclaw, Washington

DESCRIPTION

Single track, small up and downs. Very short 3-4 mile excursion. Some good river scenery. Once you hit a 4 way intersection with a road, you can either go straight onto the trail, left to a tree farm, or right down a gravel road. If you go right down the gravel road, it takes you down a hill which then starts parallelling the White River. Pretty sweet scenes but the hill is a bear getting back up.

The trail gnomes have been busy out here. A new extension trail has been added. To locate it, ride to the end of the the original Rim trail(second gravel road junction) then bear right on road about 30 yards. There is another new trail on the right. It is kind of hard to see due to the tall vegetation. I woulg guess about two miles of new single track. Ride it, it needs breaking in. The new trail is alot more technical than the Rim trail with lots of small skinnys and bigger logs to ride over. Just want to say thanks to whoever added this trail!

GO LEFT TO MAINLINE ROAD- FOLLOW UNTIL THE OVERPASS FOR THE MAIN ROAD IS OVER YOUR HEAD THEN GO LEFT ONTO ANOTHER FOREST ROAD. YOU WILL RUN SMACK DAB INTO THE TRAIL MARKER FOR THE "NOSEDIVE" TRAIL. AN INCREDIBLE DOWNHILL THAT IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. FOLLOW TRAIL TO MORE FOREST SERVICE ROADS KEEPING LEFT ALL THE WAY UNTIL YOU COME OUT ON THE BLACKTOP. A pretty good trail with some nice scenery. Some small down hill and up hill climbs. Pretty rooted in some sections. I mainly ride it because it's twenty minutes on my bike from my house so it beats driving somewhere. Decent single track for the person who is just learning. Have a good ride.

Head east out of Enumclaw toward Crystal Mountain/Mt. Raineer/Green Water. You'll pass all the logging outfits on your left hand side and then you'll start to accend while on the highway. The highway will take you around a sweeping left turn and up onto a big straight away. The turn off of Mud Mountain Dam will be on your right hand side. Follow the road to the parking lot. Rim Trail is just to the left of the gated entrance. You cant miss it.

Now your at the parking lot, cycle down the parking lot following the road on the right side, this will turn you towards Hwy. 410, ride along the Hwy. to the next in-road (just past the overpass), parallel the Hwy. cross a couple gates. and follow this road all the way back to the top of the hill, you'll want to take a left on the first road, if it looks familiar its because this is where you started.

Customer Service

We ride this rider in combo with a few others, instead of riding from the parking lot, try riding up the Mud Mountain Rd back towards Hwy. 410, cross over the bridge, around the corner to the horse parking lot, from here follow the road into the park trails. You have to go around two gate and the trail starts off to your right after the 2nd gate. At the end of the single track, before you head back to your car, follow the road back to the intersection of the "back" Mud Mt. rd. this leads you down towards Enumclaw, go down two turns, you'll see it's the second gate, it looks unfortunately like the local dump, cross this gate and follow "carefully" missing all the broken glass and shotgun shell casings, down this road till it intersects another road, double back at this intersection, and take a right at the next intersection. You'll ride this about a 1/4 mile, take the next left and then vear right up the small road to the power lines - now your climbing up towards the top of Mt. Baldy, this is fairly easy riding, some horses so be courteous, ride the power lines, you'll pass acrossed one dirt road, but keep going. Next you'll see the top of Mt. Baldy up above you, keep working up, its well worth it follow the road to two road that intersect first one going left - go straight up and take the rocky uphill on the second road, at the top of a small climb you come around the base of a power tower and see the trail now its granny gear climbing but this dumps out into a sweet section of single track. This eventually dumps you out on a cross road take the left following this all the way to the parking lot acrossed from the Weyerhauser Mill. (See more below)

Most other rides are totally hammered rides like Skokum Flats, but there are some good rides up behind Weyerhauser that'll be written in another post. Have fun and by the way you'll be muddy.

I recently maintained this trail so that it is pretty easy to ride. The trail itself isn't very hard it's the way back that kills you. Before going make sure your brakes work well. This trail is not for beginers.

Customer Service

Go up 410 like your going to crystal mountain. Turn right towards the dam. You will come to a bridge where there will be a little place where you can park. Right by where you park there will be a gate. Go down toward the roadand its on the right side of the road.

You can also ride the rim trail its just up the road a ways by the Mud Mountain Dam recreation area.
