STARTING AT BIKE SHOP, IT'S A SHORT ROAD RIDE TO THE SKI SLOPES. THEN ACROSS SKI SLOPES TO THE ACTUAL TRAIL HEAD OF DOWNHILL. DEPENDING ON ABILITY CAN BE FAST & FUN, OR CAN BE PAINFUL. STARTING IN THE FIRST FEW FEET IS A ROCKY SECTION AND LOGS TO CROSS. THEN IT'S A CLIMB (EASY) FOR A WAYS (THOUGHT IT WAS DOWNHILL). AFTER THAT EITHER HOLD YOUR BRAKES OR LET IT FLY. VARIOUS TERRAIN WITH SMOOTH EASY FAST SECTIONS TO A VERY ROCKY ALMOST RIDABLE CREEK CROSSING (ALMOST MADE IT, DAPPED A COUPLE TIMES). SOME STEEP SECTIONS BUT NOTHING UNRIDABLE. VERY ROCKY SOME PLACES. LAST SECTION IS GRAVEL AND PAVED ROAD TO STONEY CREEK GOLF CLUBHOUSE. ACTUAL SINGLE TRACK DOWNHILL IS MORE LIKE 5 + MILES. GREAT VIEWS OF THE VALLEYS AND MOUNTAINS. WELL WORTH GOING. GREAT PART IS SHUTTLE BACK TO TOP.

This trail is a pretty good technical downhill ride. Though it doesn't have as much singletrack as I was hoping for, it is a great time nonetheless. Dropping in just below the main buildings @ Wintergreen is fast, smooth doubletrack. Upon entering the woods, there's a brief section of rocky creekbed. The trail takes off from there for about 7 miles of downhill bliss. Sometimes smooth and fast, other times rocky and somewhat technical, with a few creek crossing as well. It is pretty much an old jeep road the entire route, though some sections might qualify as singletrack. The trail eventually comes out onto paved road, then ducks back in to the woods briefly. It finally ends @ the golf course down in the valley. The shuttle ride back up to the top is key. Highly recommend multiple rides. The trail gets much faster the 2nd time.

Great downhill, the leaves on the ground made it even more challenging! I was aware of the shuttle to the top, but I had my cell phone and opted for the road ride back. The ride back was 11 miles and went from 700 to 3400 feet. I totally kicked my butt - by the time I wanted someone to pick me up, my cell phone didnt work! All in all it was a great sense of accomplishment making the climb. I don't recommend it though - you could probably ride the downhill a few more times.

This is a 3000` plumet down a rock garden. There are two ways to ride this.1-get off your bike and walk it down and enjoy nature around you. 2-put on your helmet (tight),click into your pedals, grab your grips , say a prayer to the downhill god and then let it GO. Either you get it up on plain and ride the top of the rocks at high speed or get off and walk it, there is no in-between. This is a run that you must be 100% committed to or your gonna get hurt. This trail is for advance riders or bikers who like to hike.

I brought my own TI hardtail. The shop now rents K2 front and full susp cross country bikes. First, this should be rated an advanced trail, but since Wintergreen's other trails (which seemed new as of Summer 2001) are not really ridable, they call this intermediate. I'm glad I left my wife behind on this one. It would have taken me 6 months to get her back on the bike. The trail is very fun for advanced riders, who enjoy technical downhills. The trail does have about 200 yards of uphill. If I do this again, I will try to borrow or rent a full on down hill bike. Wintergreen also has a skate park for the truely crazy.

Follow map provided at rental shop. I think you are supposed to pay a usage fee for the shuttle bus.

This trail is highly overrated. It's an intermediate run at the best. Does not compare to Good ole Whitetail at all. Its basically a fire road with a few rocks and little hits. This ride is fun, but if you are a good downhiller, you will be disappointed. The busdriver is slow, talks too much and will drive you nuts on the way up.

It's funny to read some of the reviews below. Seems like a different trail some people are writting about. Here is the real deal:

It is a downhill FIREROAD nothing more or less. I do mostly cross country style riding and found this trail to be easy (maybe a bit boring) at best.

On a full blow DH rig go else where. Don't know if you would even feel the trail. Sure there are some rocks and strem crossing, but if you think this is hard you simply do not ride that much. Went there wanting to like it, left wondering if I was on the right trail (I was).

Okay, this is one "trail" thats at wintergreen. Yes it's long and fast, but is nothing compared to the REAL DH/free ride trails they have. Loggers alley is a good end of the day run. You don't want to spend all day riding it when the good stuff is by the ski lift.
