Great North Mountain Trail to Eliot Knob - Trail, Staunton, Virginia

Great North Mountain Trail to Eliot Knob - Trail, Staunton, Virginia

DESCRIPTION

This is really an excellent hiking trail. It is a 4.5 mile out and back. The first two miles contain 0.5 miles of downhill. The rest is a severe climb but its smooth singletrack. Then the Rocks begin. You will be cursing my name by mile 2.5 because there are prickers too. Bring tubes please. At mile 4 you come out on a fire road that climbs to Eliot Knob (the highest point in the George Washington National Forest-4400Ft approx.). Then turn around and go back.

tough trail but the view is well worth the struggle. If you downhillers can make it to the top there is a 2 mile eastern trail that's easy to roll..

first of all you made a mistake when you said to take route 668. It is really route 688 just so no one gets lost. Second of all the discription of the trail head is rather misguided. Before you get to the trail head there is another gate that fits the discription of the trail head. SO make sure you go up far enough. You will see a trail marker that does not mark the north mountain trail but thats ok. You just have to go to the left through the gate and you will be on north mountain trail.

The wrong trail that i took was just a fire road so watch out and make sure you go on the right trail.

Man this is one kick-ass trail!!!! You'all better ride this! There is a lot of technical shit in the rocks so have fun. Unfortunetly i didnt make it all the way to the top beacause i had to work.I got pretty close so if you dont like biking uphill for miles don't take this trail its not for you. Overall this was an awesome trail.

Customer Service

oh by the way you go on south 42 instead of north.
