Newportnews Waterworks - TRAIL

Newportnews Waterworks - Trail, Grafton - Yorktown, Virginia

There are three: One each: beginners, intermediate and advanced. Very clean and well maintained, I will get more clear directions, I been to the trail only once. There is plenty of parking by the reservoir. I enjoyed very much. Then again I'm only a novice, may not be as challenging for more advaced people.

this trail has been around forever, is very undifficult, rooty, waterfilled, bug infested, and otherwise typical for trails in this area. i suggest taking the fire road around, crossing denbigh blvd., turn left, keep on fireroad till you get to model aeroplane park, ride thru to richneck rd, go right, cross ft. eustis rd. there you will be able to fide the lost trail on your right with your legs well warmed up. then when you finish, head right on the abandoned rd., cut thru the trail to the tour rd. on the left. ride this till you come out on the new cut-away trail made by the park service on the right. when you get to surrender rd. (paved)turn left. head to yorktown, after crossing cook rd. take the first right into the parking area at the battlefields. follow the rd. as it loops around. if you look very closley, you will see in the woods to your right an opening. head for it. 2 trails will emerge, take the right- stay on till you end up crossing tour rd #2 3 miles later. cross again and you will see another trail emerge- stay on it and you will come out on old york hampton rd. stay right to get back to surrender rd. head home and you will have had a good long interresting workout. p.s. the yorktown unnamed trail(we call it JUMPER) is great, in the fall, but you will not see it too well in the summer because it is not ridden enough to stay off the vegetation...also is a great trail to run in the fallwinter.

Trails are good because you can take friends of various skill levels out with you. They are easily accessible. Not as challenging as Wallermill Park in Williamsburg but for days when you not exactly looking for an adrenaline rush but just a good trail to develop skills on these are perfect. Hard to give a rating. I'd give it a 4 for the rec. rider but hardcore freaks would prob. only give it a 2. I guess that makes it a 3. Anyway, I hope these trails are around for a long time cause I think I could still ride them when I start going grey.

3 trails, novice, advanced & expert. Novice trail is a challenge for the beginner and a good warm up for advanced. Advanced trail is longer than the other two with some good hills. The expert trail is easy but technically challenging,

There are 3 trails: novice, advanced & expert. The novice trail is a great challenge for the beginner(me) and a great warm up for advanced(which I have only done twice). The advanced trail is extremely longer then the novice, with some great hills. Watch out for tree roots though! I have not graduated to the expert trail yet, but hope to get there soon. I highly recommend this area for the beginner or for the beginner looking to become advanced. If you are a beginner/advanced mtb's that is looking for someone to ride with, please email me.

the three trails are a excellent way to end a full day of riding the best technical single track around. after doing marl ravine, waller mill, lunch at pierce`s bbq of course.another 20 minutes (just enough time to digest) harwood mills three trails are saying "come on, just one more time. " who can resist? all the trails are fairly easy & are very fun if you get a good pace going & ride fast. #2 seems to get a litle long though. last time was there,(05/27) some local riders mentioned the lost trail. we didn`t get to go though due to one of us having mechanical failure. (chain broke)will go next time. i like the easy access but mostly like to use it as a cooldown since when i do ride, i get very hooked and do not want to stop at all. ( my buddies hate me) the trail is mostly flat with a few ravines to go through, lots of tight turns, plenty of opportunity to lean on trees when going fast. ENJOY!

take I64 to rt. 17 north, pass resrvior & dam on left, turn on oriana rd. be careful here because the road on the right is not oriana. so look on the left side of the road. cross the reservior and park.

This trail system was a big suprise. While visiting my bro at the base I had the opportunity to ride it. It is vey well maintained, a little twist but, very flat! Not a destination trail but a nice city trail. But, combined with Waller Mill and York River it becomes a tempting destination!

Very good trails for the area. If there is a local group maintaining this set of trails, I would like to see them switch the rating for the Advanced and Expert. The Expert was not as challenging as the Advanced. All three trails are excellent for someone new to the sport.

This is actually the Harwood Mills trails. Newport News Waterworks must be someone's local name for this site.
