Andrew Leitch Park - Trail, Dale City, Virginia

Andrew Leitch Park - Trail, Dale City, Virginia

DESCRIPTION

Trail is a mix of footpaths, doubletrack, powerlines and four-wheeler tacks. Good hills but not very technical. There are three stream crossings that are fun. All in all about 5 miles of trail for intermediates.

I have lived next to this trail for the last 20yrs. It is a great quickie... It is mixed with single track, ATV trials, and fire/access roads for the power companies. You can easily link this trail up with the near-by LakeRidge boathouse and turn it into a 20 mile loop. Keep your eyes out for numerous trails off of these fire roads/trails because the ATV guys tend to create loops and various sections of their own. You can get lost out here on a Saturday if you don't watch it.
If you find the smaller set of powerlines behind Leitch, great your adventure has just begun. Follow those out to a larger set of powerlines that cut across Prince William County and you can add miles to your ride. All of the powerlines are interconnected so don't freak out. There are sections that are low lying and as such tend to get really NASTY during the wet season... Similar to Fountainhead but smells like a sewer treatment plant. Enjoy the ride...

Hit the trail today and found it empty no ATV's and the mud was hard to find. If you have stronge legs you can get the work out at the second river crossing . plenty of hills and speed is up there. If you like to tool around and hit small jumps stay on the powert line trail. One path has several trees down I plan on fixing soon. over all a good day on the trail.

Disclaimer: I am a recent transplant from Northern California, so my trail standards are pretty high. This trail is not very good by California standards, but 1) it's there and 2) it's close, so I'll ride it! Watch out for the mud.

Plenty of streams and creeks for those who like them. Watch out for kids on ATV's. Be careful after the rain. I got stuck in a foot of mud in some doubletrack ruts today. There are plenty of alternate paths everywhere. I suggest exploring a bit first before tearing through everything, it's easy to get turned around. When it's not wet, these trails are fun for a short afternoon ride, nothing too technical, but if you look for it, you can find a few good jumps.

Customer Service

Andrew Leitch Park - far end of the baseball diamonds, there are a few trail heads, I normally enter just to the right of the corner of the wooded area and head right at the doubletrack trail.
