Mint Springs Park - TRAIL

Mint Springs Park - Trail, Crozet, Virginia

The trails are moderately rocky, a little washed out in places, and there's lots of weeds at your feet in the summertime. They generally go up into the woods with a rather steep climb - probably not good for beginners. I haven't ridden all of the trails yet, and hope people will post thier favorite routes and reviews. I believe there's not more than a few miles of trails here, but seems like it'll make for great training loops. Be careful, there's bear here!

The scenery is awesome and it is "mountain biking" in its purest form. Mainly single track with tons of rocks, roots, sharp turns with trees ready to kiss your cheeks, and although the trails & markers are clearly visible, the trails are rough (this is a good thing). While there are no lofty jumps, there are plenty of downhills with varying degrees of difficulty. The downhills come at a cost....you have to go up! If you want to test you climbing skills, legs, and lung capacity, this is the place.

BTW: best part of ride is that these trails are in Crozet, VA , and that means when you are done you are only 10min from Star Hill Brewery.

From map kiosk, turn left and go out to the Upper lakes and work up and around to e Orchard trail then go up up and connect to the Fire trail system and work your way back. If you follow the fire trail and decide to come down that trail back to the kiosk...check your brakes first.

Beware...turning right from map kiosk and taking the .47 trek up the fire trail is crazy. It is straight up with ruts, small rocks, and small patches of mud. There IS a reason why they have a bench at the top. If you do decide to go this way, if you find an extra lung on the trail...it is mine. I was to exhausted to stop and pick it up.

Great trails, best in Albemarle county. The CAMBA just made a new trail and did great overhaul trail mtc that has made a huge difference. There is a map you can access via the www.albemarle.org county website for Mint Springs Park.
Overall great terrain, wild downhills, just a compact park, but you can easily get a good hours ride in without much repeat of trails.
By the way, the map above is not anywhere near Crozet, VA.

Overall, Mint Springs is a pretty good place to get some exercise - not any epic rides here, but enough elevation to make a great work out and enough downhill to cramp your hands a bit. Great for Crozetians. Probably very similar to O-Hill in C'ville, but not crowded at all and better looking.

Customer Service

From the parking lot, go behind the lake and stay straight until you see a trail off to the left. Start there, go about 300 yards and turn left. This will take you to the top of the "mountain". You'll reach an intersection - go straight and stay straight until you can turn left onto the "big survey" trail. Stay on this - it will take you around the mountain with some great views of the valley below, then take you on a long and rocky downhill. Turn left at the trail intersection after the waterfall and you'll come out at the big field. Enjoy!
