forest lake trails - Trail, Charlottesville, Virginia

DESCRIPTION

Lots of different loops around the area, mostly beginner some intermediate. I would find someone familiar with the area to take you around because the trails are all over the place.

I was kind of surprised to find the review here for the Forest Lakes Trail system since it's mostly private property owned by the home owners association and only open to residents and "guests" of Forest Lakes. That said, I think having the review posted is appropriate considering Forest Lakes has more people living in it than some small towns.

If you don't live in Forest Lakes, catch one of the regular Monday evening rides led by members of CAMBC who live in Forest Lakes.

There's about 8 miles of mostly sustainable/side sloped single track and another 2 miles of misc. paths/roads stringing a loop together. Most of the trail is fairly flowy but seldom do the twist let up enough to let people ride wide open...an effort by the designer/builder to limit user speed in a multi-use neighborhood setting with kids and dog walkers. Sidewinder, Jungle, and Baker Butler have the more techy parts. The figure 8 just rolls.

Look closely and there are optional technical lines and short skinnys scattered here and there around the network. Like the little rock garden off Meadow View (Figure 8)

And to the kids/folks out there trying to put more trail or optional lines in, please contact the Forest Lakes management office. They'll put you in touch with the folks who built and maintain the trail. There is a bit of room for some stuff optional lines in the right spot, but the trail is up against neighboring property lines in may places, and its extremely important to stay "on the reservation". The trail workers can get you pointed in the right direction and keep from having to remove "poor choices" from both a trespassing and sustainability standpoint.

Customer Service

Counter clock wise beginning at the South Club House trail,
Aspen, out to Sidewinder, then along Creekside, connecting to the figure 8 section behind Springridge (D&D Loop, Meadowview, Well House Hollow), then Oliver Branch to Baker Butler, come back for Jungle trail, up the power line to Lakeview and Will's Way, then Teakwood and Thornridge Loops.

Ratings 3, 3, and 5 (because it's my backyard and I'm biased).

Preddy Creek, the main loop's corridor is opened up enough to really rip.
