Otter Creek ATV Trails - Trail, Big Island, Virginia

Otter Creek ATV Trails - Trail, Big Island, Virginia

DESCRIPTION

Maintained by the government for 4 wheelers, motorbikes, and Mountain Bikes. Nearly 50-60 miles of trails wide enough for a 4-wheeler. Very technical in many places, with loop rides and out and backs for the less skilled. Rock sections most can't ride, and downhills that have claimed the best of them (don't for get, what goes down must come up).

In my opinion the best trails in VA. Steep downhills with monsterous jumps, and tight corners BANKED so you can take them faster. This place has everything, except creek/river crossings. There are some pretty large mud holes after a storm though. Total elevation change probably over 1000 feet. Some spectacular views of the valleys from designated "scenic overlooks". If you're in the Big Island area (within 50 miles) this is a definite MUST ride. Trails featured in Runner's World magazone as top 10 hikes in the country, also featured in Outdoor magazine for similar reasons. I'll be there Sunday. Too bad the RATINGS don't go hirer than 5...

Start in the designated parking lot and ride main loop clockwise back to the parking lot. Roughly a 20+ mile trip. Bring extra water. Free maps in parking lots.

this is my favorite, it's really nice at night, the hills are rough but not impossible, and the downhills make up for the work. the best time is during the week, weekends you have to stop too often to pull over for the atv's and motorcross dorks.. hey they're wearing leather, we're wearing spandex and everyone should be scared.. seriously though it's the best in the area

Customer Service

save yourself $5, park at the pull off at the bottom of the entrance road, you have to pay to park in the lot. there's a nice map at the trail head, the outside loop is the best and you really will appreciate the overlook, it's worth it.

30 MPH on the backside of the loop. Yes I said I have hit over 30 mph on this Trial. this is a fun place to ride and it only gets technical at high speeds. I ride and race in the area alot so I know my way around most of the good trails in the area. Everyone, I take here for the first time Loves it. It's especailly great for roades because of the hard pack and double track.

A fun place to ride

Customer Service

Run it Counter Clokwise, it is slower because the climbs are linger this way(trust me I have timed it a dozen times).

PEVINE MTN just over the hill from this trail, you can actually connect the two to make for a 3 hour loop.

This trail is a joke for real A T V riders. I could drive my wifes car around it with no problem. For some real riding ,come down to Philpot lake in Henery C.O.on Route 57 and ask anyone how to get to Whitefalls. For a real ride across rivers & mountains.

Customer Service

Its all to smooth and easy any way you ride it.

I'm used to riding more technical trails, but this place was pure FUN! No logs, creeks, etc. . . , but lots of jumps. Did I say lots of jumps? You can get a pretty good workout, especially if you schlep it out to the Lasso trail. That was so fun I went round it twice! (Go clockwise--the hill at the back is SICK! Lone Mountain Trail is great too.

I didn't have any problem with ATV-ers--they were all freindly, along with thinking anone who was self powered was a little insane.

For speed (many jumps are followed by sharply banked turns) and tons of the ol' whoop-de-doos, this is the place! It's all wide open! (Look out for the mud pits on one trail . . . I won't tell ya which one. hehehe)

Customer Service

Any. It's all good. Counter-clockwise was what I did, kind of, and it was great.

Haven't ridden too much around here. The Henry Lanum trail is nearby, (even more remote!) It's only 5 miles, but a decent challenge. Worth a sidetrip. Nearer to home, Big Levels, of course, and Panorama Farms and Walnut Creek.

Its a great trail system with plenty of jumps and plenty of mud. Its definately a nice trail system and i am grateful for it, but it is basically like driving down a road with bumps. And there are no challengeing hillclimbs or technical areas...this place would be a blast for a beginner. But for us...we need technical stuff and insane hillclimbs to get our thrill...kind of like west va.
