Mytoge Mountain Loop (Fish Lake) - TRAIL

Mytoge Mountain Loop (Fish Lake) - Trail, Richfield, Utah

Ride south from the Lodge on the paved road until you reach the Mytoge Mountain turnoff. This is where it turns to dirt. It is a graveled road through the cabin area and then turns to a well groomed dirt road. You will pass through aspens and old ranching cabins on your climb to the top of Mytoge. Once on top you do several ups and downs with the opportunity to view Fish Lake and the vally via three different view points. After you have passed all of the side spurs to the overlooks the road starts to degrade to a jeep road and you will eventually come to crater lakes. Shortly after crater lakes it turns to single track and descends back to the north end of Fish Lake. Ride the road back to the lodge for a good home cooked meal. NOTE: The lodge is only open form Memorial Day to Labor day. There is also a MTB festival held here each autumn when the leaves change. There is also great campgrounds with flushy toilets and showers to clean up after a long day in the saddle. Although this is the classic ride in this area, there is hundreds of miles of riding to be done in this area. There is also Capitol Reef National Park about 30 minutes away. The forest service is currently working on cutting a single track around the lake. I rode part of it in the fall of 99' from overlook #1 to overlook #3 and it is pretty sweet. The lower portion of the loop on the west side of the lake is already done and has been graveled. There are maps of other MTB rides available at the lodge.

The singletrack loop around the lake is in, sort of. Consider it an epic. Tough climb out SE, stupid traildozer track along East, high above the lake, regular vistas. Twisty descent to a two-mile portage along NE shoreline. Lovely flying singletrack in NW, leading to urban trail along the shore by the lodge. Next time we'll camp up on Mytoge Mountain (east of the lake) and ride two-track as well. Splendid country. Buy a book, "The Proper Edge Of The Sky", by Edward Geary, and fall in love with middle Utah.

Counterclockwise from lodge or any parking on west shore. Find the singletrack along the lake, go south.

This is an awsome ride. I ride it once a year just to remember how great it is. I have seen deer, ekl, eagles, hawks, and mountain lion. More often that not you are the only person on this trail which is somewhat strange when you run in to a mountain lion 15 miles from anyone, but that is what it is all about. There are other great trails in the area on top of the mytoge mountain there are numerous fire roads to check out. Doc creek by the fish lake lodge is epic. Dry springs trail on the south end of lake is epic. Bowery haven trail is epic and there are many more next to Johnson resivoir. Go and have fun. The best time of year is June through august.
