Blackhawk Trail - Trail, Park City, Utah

DESCRIPTION

This is a great, newly developed single track playground that melts out early for this high of an elevation. Many interconnecting trails. Check the map and go for it.

This makes for a good recovery ride. You can pretty much keep your heart rate at 60 to 70% of max. On my odometer, it's an 8.6 mile route. Much more scenic than you'd think. Takes about an hour to ride it.

This is on par with Gambel Oaks (from Mellow Mountain Rd.) but with a longer climb - a solid intermediate ride. It's just one loop (with an inner loop if you stick to the front side) so there's no piecing together different trail required for the less familiar. Definitely don't ride the back side if it's rained within the past couple of days even if the front side seems bone dry - the earth's that dark, mushy stuff and there's not much sun. Once you've dropped down the back, you need to do a couple of bits on pavement between trail sections (no more 1/4 mile at a time), but stay right-ish and you'll be fine. Fairly well marked and established since last summer. It has a bit of everything - awesome morning ride if you can afford the luxury of going to work a bit late! Maybe 2-2.5 hours total, and 1 hour for the frontside?

Take the trailhead to the left after you go over the bridge, climb the front side and if it hasn't rained recently, grab the fork to the left when you get on the double-track hill (if it has rained recently, drop down to the right and stay on the front side). If you've gone up to the left, you'll hit a road, cross it and climb up the short hill over the top and drop down the backside - nice switchback descent (but stays wet and muddy MUCH longer than the front side), then into zippy smooth simgletrack through the field, til you get back round to the front side of the hill and spit out at the trailhead on the right side of the road from where you started. If that wasn't enough, go across the road and repeat the process :)
