Kerrville State Park (A.K.A. Schreiner State Park) - TRAIL

Kerrville State Park (A.K.A. Schreiner State Park) - Trail, Kerrville, Texas

There's a little for everyone, except perhaps the superman downhillers. There are nice rocky sections, fast hardpacked single track, winding narrow woodsy trails (full of cedars--avoid during cedar season if you're prone to cedar fever, or be sure to med beforehand!). There are even a few places where you can catch some air. This is a good place to go just for fun if you're in the area visiting. I'd recommend going to Bandera or Kelly Creek if you're going to make a long trip, but this park is fun if you happen to be in the area and you have your ride. Watch for hikers...there aren't too many but there are some.

nice intermediate trail with occasional advanced drop or climb. rocky but no loose rocks. no baby heads to speak of. +/- 6 mi. of trails.

all trails interconnect so you can do as many different sectionS as many times as you like.

excellent map and water in park. trailheads and crossings easily marked.

if you take the red section in counter clockwise direction you will climb about 330' up to water tower. this is a tuff , intense and advanced aeorbic climb. in shape riders will want to do it a couple or more times.

nice little trial..oppty for a good workout.

This trail was not that bad. I live in houston so anything with a climb is fun for me. I went in late July so I rode early in the morning around 7 till 11. Then I went to the river with some beer. This trail made me invest in a soft tail. I did not touch the hill. Anybody that has been here knows what Im talking about.

Kerrville is a nice place and the trails aren't bad either. If you show up late to the park, a nice fellow named BoJack will make sure you are taken care of. The trails are in pretty good shape although the map isn't the most helpful. There is one large climb with nice downhill on the backside. Watch for hikers as there are many. This place is beautiful and peaceful. If you need a place to eat head to Big Earls, good barbeque, just don't expect a smile from the kid working the day shift on Thursday. GOOD FOOD THOUGH!!!! I recommend the trip to Kerrville. Have fun!

I offer this review in two parts -- my personal experience and detailed park information. PERSONAL EXPEREINCE: This state park offers a great training area for beginner mountain bikers (like myself) but equally fun for more experienced riders. I recently bought a Trek 4100 and have been riding on these trails 2-3 times per week for over a month and have never grown tired of them. To my surprise, I discovered that even a 38-year-old could rock-hop without too much fatigue and impact on the body. This park has helped me fall in love with the sport of mountain bike riding. Even though the park is small, the trails are well networked and include several switchbacks so repeating your favorite trails is fairly easy (reminds me of a ski slope). As mentioned by other reviewers, the park offers great scenic views (certain areas beg you to stop and soak in the beauty of God's creation). There are many fast-paced trails and a couple challenging hills to practice your climbs and descents. Also, there are lots of rock-hopping terrain, washed-out trail grooves, and a few places to catch a little air-time. Overall, this park is a great place to sharpen your technical skills, gain some confidence, and get a decent workout. DETAILED PARK INFO: The 517 acre park includes 7.7 miles of hiking trails with more than half of it suitable for biking. Unlike other parks in the area that closes during the hunting season, you can ride these trails seven days a week, all year long.

The city of Kerrville is off of I-10, an hour north of San Antonio. This park is located 3 miles southwest of Kerrville on both sides of Hwy 173. One side offers the river and the other side has most of your hiking and biking trails. Both sides offer bathrooms, hookups, camping sites, and shelters. The official address is 2385 Bandera Hwy. (173 south), Kerrville TX (in case you want to MapBlast it on the net). For more info, call 830-257-5392.

Similar Products Used: I have heard a lot about Kelly Creek, Flat Rock, K-Pub, and Hill Country State Natural Area (Bandera). However, I haven't personally ridden a bike in these areas yet. The hill country is a great place for mountain bike riding!

These trails are great for a beginner mountain biker like myself. I ride here about 2-3 times a week. The best thing about this spot is the natural beauty, and numerous deer. There are several remarkable scenic views. These trails provide the beginner/mid-range biker a variety of great oppotunities. The trails are fast, with some challenges mixed in all along the way (jumps, rugged terrain, steep uphills, etc..) The park is also just a jewel--great place to get away for the weekend! I highly reccomend!

I had expected more out of it the first time I went but it is a blast also the Park Rangers are nice and you get a map of the trails and the park if you are going to be in kerrville for awhile mountain biking is only half the fun at the park camping swimming canoeing and fishing just to name a few also one disadvantage to the trails is that you have to do alot of trail-blazing it seems that trails have been added since the map was made

this trail is good for a lazy sunday ride as there is only one major uphill, and downhill, on the entire course, it is mostly hardpack and some loose rock nothing really techincal but you can get some air in places, this trail would be good for bringing your kids and wife along with you there is only about 3-5 mi of trail there dont expect to hold a good training ride there or anything like that as there are many trails in the area that are much better than this one as far as technicality and length goes check the local bike shop for more info on bikig in the area

I rode this park for about 4 hours while visiting my mom over Christmas. The ability to ride in December was a Godsend compared to the 2 feet of snow we have in upstate NY where I now live. As for the park, I thought it was a great place to spend a day. I am a serious mtb'er who is used to riding very technical courses in the Northeast and I thought it was great if you don't go in there expecting it to be Slickrock or Durango. It is a network of fast trails that provide some opportunities for catching air. There was one decent uphill and some decent drops formed by the washout of the trails. I recommend it to anyone who is in the Kerrville area when the other mountain bike specific parks (Kelly Creek, Flat Rock Ranch) are closed for hunting season. Remember, mtbing anywhere is what you make of it.
