For some reason these trails have been closed. The gates have been locked for the past two months and "no tresspassing" signs were just posted. I live right by these trails and would go out there a few times a week prior to them closing. If anyone knows why they have been closed I would love to know.

Customer Service

from I-20 take fm 600/westlake road north. trails on the left just before 1082. 2 entrances.

Basically a wide motorcycle/atv trail with some straight fast rutty downhill sections and climbs. O.K. for a workout but that's about it. If you like singletrack with scenery, don't bother. For a little freeride action, near the highway there are some hills with a variety of drops, from 1 to 8 feet.

Hey... Whats wrong with motorcycles??? Quads I can understand though. According to recent scientific studies (By Frank Norman, a Dr. in the field of human endurance) Made a list of the sports that take the most energy over a long period of time. 1. MOTOCROSS!!! (YOU LIKE IT) 2. Soccer and 3. Water polo. So don't tell me it isn't exersize. Also don't put us riders down you morons that haven't even ridden a dirtbike long enough to see just how fun it really is. Yes, I do indeed love mountain biking, but if I can take my kx250 to the same place, I'm there!!!

I am exhaused by just thinking about this difficult "colorado" type area. From the breathtaking heaps of garbage to the extensive wildlife (donkeys and hicks), this place is what it's all about. Don't miss the beutiful lake after the ride.

This trail is symbolic of the Mt Bike scene in Abilene. small and out of sight and mind. Really a weave of motorcycle trails it has a micro-sense of bigger trails. there are short climbs and fast descents with drop-offs and some technical streches. Hard to find any length or trail without rocks or cactus so keep your eyes open! This could be a great place to ride if people would stop dumping trash everywhere. Even riders leave there drink containers and tubes laying around. Watch out for motorcyclist (not a problem usually) and drunk red necks. Till we get a place of our own to ride daily, this is the most used trail in Abilene.

Customer Service

you have to ride every trail several times to get a good work out

Abilene does have a fine single track of its own, but it is only open on the weekends. Its the Pecan Bayou trail on State Hi-way 36. Head south from the airport about 15 miles till you cross the Pecan Bayou bridge, travel about a half a mile up the hill till you see a old bill board on the right ( it has Antiques written on it ). Right after this bill board is a dirt rode to turn on, cross two cattle grates and you'll see and old road on the left. This is the trail head. This trail was made solely for Mt bikes. It is hard packed earth winding through Mesquite forest and pasture. The course was built by Mike Sparks who used rocks and trees and other natural features to create a fun and fast trail. There are some technical areas in the back area but over all this is good beginner course. Bring slime tubes cause there are lots of mesquite and cactus that sometimes get on the trail, and of course cow poo-poo. This is a working ranch so please be respectful of the family living here. Bring water and a full tank of gas. Trail length is about 7 miles.

this is basically a wide track that is mainly used for motorcycles and 4-wheelers but has some very interesting short climbs and desents. it is very technical in spots with a lot of loose limestone, sand, rocks, ruts, mesquite trees and cactus. not a very long trail and is really a rat maze in about a 1/2 mile section. fun just to challange yourself to make some of these rocky climbs especially with clipless pedals!

Customer Service

take fm road 600 north off of interstate 20 aproximately 6-7 miles just before the ft. phantom lake
turn off.

This trail is ravaged by motorcycles, but is a good short course with some cool climbs and downhill runs. I found a narly 15 foot hill that looks like a wall on my house(got a brokeen leg to prove it).

Went out there in the mud and when it was dry. Mud out there is thick and if you go down the wrong trails you may never get back. Lots of small climbs and some advanced trails. Watch out some of the hills come off on cliffs (ow.)Very crowded on weekends. My dad and I took a 1984 Honda XR500R and a 1983 Honda XL600R and we got some good climbs and 4 or 5 foot jumps in. If you can make it on that then you can make it on anything.

Customer Service

Take F.M 600 North off of I-20 its past the junk yard and before the store on the left. It is on the left and you will see trails. Marked by a faded red shirt on a stick.
