Excellent trail well maintained no complaints well marked no mud great over looks

for a drop in ride i couldn't be happier

Reading the forums IF you are stupid enough to ride the cable tray I hope darwin kills you. As for TVA if they have concerns they could install some plastic hoops or non-rideable feature. selectively placed it would eliminate all riders from the tray.

Customer Service

I did both directions, and did the full loop about 16.5 miles. I did miss out on the upper section

Sweetest Trail system I've had the chance to ride! Place has a bit of everything - Great flow, sweet downhill sections, technical rock stuff, some jumps mixed in... all around awesomeness in one trail system!

Customer Service

We dropped off a cooler with some sandwiches at the Visitor's Center - thanks goes out to the people at the VC for letting us leave an unattended cooler under a bench... and sorry for interrupting what looked like a super-crazy game of cards.
We then parked at the East Overlook and took off on a counter-clockwise path from there.
(The visitor's Center was at the half way point)

I rode this trail Monday, the 7th. I worked clockwise from the visitor's center, all the way around and the final climb was a killer-I walked. The level of difficulty was not as high as I expected, but I'm only an intermediate rider, so I didn't mind. I spent 3-4 hours here and loved every minute of it.
Enjoy the speed that the trails offer, but do beware of the two-way traffic!
I loved the solitude, too. I'm sure the trails are crowded at times, but I think I saw 5 riders the whole time.

Customer Service

Do a complete circuit the first time if you can. Then, based on that, decide where your favorite trails are and stick to those.

One of my favorite trails in the southeast. Built for biking for mountain bikers, RM is well maintained and well thought out. The trail loops around a mountain lake and the views into the valley are beautiful. Not overly technical but some challenging sections, megawatt has a few tricky spots that might take a few trips few to clean. There is one rocky off-camber/step-up/turn that I haven't been able to get though. Lots of big rocks and banked turns, this trail is pure fun. After the 17 mile loop head downtown to the Pickle Barrel for a Fat Tire and Burger.

A fun, physically demanding trail. Some sections are smooth and fast, others a small rock/root sections with some medium length climbing sections, while other areas are 5-8mph undulating and twisting. There are a couple long (5min climbs) and some amazing technical sections. This trail is extremely diverse from 20mph downhill shutes to long climbs, huge rocky sections, and tons of flowing corners. Its worth the visit for sure.

Customer Service

I rode from the visitor center (most people riding from the south east corner of the trail) and took the trail anti-clockwise. I dropped into a very fun 1/4mi downhill with some rock ledges. For the next 1/2 of the trail there were medium length climbs with lots of twist and turns (none of them too tight, though, with some technical / rooted sections where I used most of my suspension travel. After 8mi or so I came to some flatter, faster sections with occasion rock gardens. At may 10mi I came to a trail labeled 'expert only' where there were 6 or so sections of very large rock structures (it felt like a baby Moab sometimes) with very steep / vertical drops. Very cool section. From the lowest part of this section I rode straight up a steep hill, onto the road, traveled 1/4mi to a power line area and dropped in by the gate across the road. More very fast sections with a few long climbs, a few nice jumps fast corners. 16mi later, back to the visitor center.

Made the 1 hr ride from home, stopped by suck creek cycle on the way up. This local shop does a 6:30pm ride every Thur.,Check out there web page!! Started at visitor center going counter clockwise, some pretty good drops on this expert trail so be on your toes. Well thought out trails, nice views, jumps, rocks, cool rock path built at base of dam!!! Two thumbs up to trail builders, i will defitenly be back and will invite all my friends!!!! You can get a good map of the trails at visitor center, just ask the friendly attendants.

Customer Service

Ride them all if you have 2-3 hours, my favorite was the small intestine loop!!!!!!!!!On the map you can see why it's called that, but on the map it is named table rock advanced level 3.5 mi. Next trip maybe ride it clockwise, i passed 3 other riders coming towards me, and 1 guy and his dog went by going the same direction, during a food stop/photo op.

We rode the entire loop this morning and this is the most buff single track I have ridden at a single time. Miles and miles of it... Lost of large smooth boulders to ride over with not too much climbing. just rolling well groomed trails that are really allot of fun... I had a new rider with me and he is hooked for life yet I was still challenged. I really enjoyed the trail and even though it was on a weekend and the weather was great it was not busy...

All though it is about a 105 mile drive for me one way this will be a regular on my places to ride.. Very very nice....

Customer Service

We started at the Visitors Center and went counter clockwise but you could go either way.... DO the loop and you will not be disappointed..

If you live in Chattanooga, these trails are a good local option. They are fun, but don't expect anything very technical here. The Raccoon Mt trails are about 80% beginner level, and about 20% intermediate. The portions that were designated for more technical riding have recently been closed by the TVA land manager as far as I understand. Unfortunately, the intermediate portions of the open trail are rapidly disappearing due to "trail work days" where volunteers go in and re-rout the trail to avoid any remotely challanging trail features. If you like technical riding, or if you are a beginner who wants to be challanged so that you can improve your skills, it is probably best to go elsewhere. The trails are fun, but they won't improve your technical skill unless you have just started riding.

Customer Service

The Visitors Center portion is the best intermediate section.

This is probably the most awesome trail system I've ever ridden. I have goose bumps just typing about it. It has sections that fly by, big rocks, little rocks, miles of buffed dirt, drops that challenge the vertically curious. It has climbable rock faces, small uphill gapped jumps. And it has plenty of yellow jackets! You may want to stop, look, and listen before you decide to walk off-trail for a dewater break or scout a drop. If you're allergic, this is a good place to take your injector with you on the trail. My rating is based on other trails I have ridden personally. I have a friend who's done 2 laps. I can't even contemplate that. Technically, my rating is based on passing up all the opportunities for big air. There are some sections that the average rider will walk, but almost of it is rideable to the majority of riders. Final grade is based on the total package, and that's what this place is: the total package.

Customer Service

Start at the East overlook and go to the right into 'Elecric Ave.' It puts you climbing Megawatt midway instead of the end. I think this is the funner direction to ride. I can climb Megawatt, because I learned to climb technical stuff at Hamilton Creek in Nashville.
