Athens Regional Park Trail - TRAIL

Athens Regional Park Trail - Trail, Athens, Tennessee

The trail is well kept. Fun for all skill levels (mainly beginner and intermediate). Good climb at the beginning of the trail gets you warmed up quick. And where there's an uphill, there's a good downhill to go with it. The trail called the roller coaster was good. There are a couple of splits to the trail so 4 times through will hit about every trail. I am not sure how long the trail is. I am not a local, but heard about the trail and tried it out. Others like myself may not know it exist. If you are in the area, try it out. Overall its a great compact trail that is well kept.

Well, I grew up in Athens but now live in Maryland, but I used to ride this trail almost daily. It's got a little bit of everything for evevryone. Not too technical, but there are a couple of switchbacks and a few tricky areas to get through. Starts off with a good hill, and it's true that for almost every hill there is a bombing downhill to come next. It's a great trail to do a couple of laps (the trail itself is about 2-3 miles, can't remember exactly), and it never gets boring with all the different trails that branch off the sides. Ride through a couple of times and you should be able to hit them all. The cool thing is that all the side trails come back to the main trail. For a really good variation, ride the trail backwards and you'll get a lot of great climbs to hammer out! By the way, on the one part that is the bombing downhill (you'll know which one when you get to it) my record is 38.8 mph. If anyone gets to that, let me know!! This is one of my favorites to ride when I'm home because it's such a great trail, superbly maintained, and is really easy to get to!

Go into the regional park, and there is a new gravel lot on the left. Either park there and hit the hill to the left or park over next to the pavillion and spin your way up to it. Hit the trail, and just follow it up the hill, along the ridge, and then down the next huge hill to the creek. Ride along the creek till you literally can't anymore, and you'll be back at the finish! Hit it again, or like I said, go in reverse!

This is a good trail, not a great trial. The "roller coaster" area is really fun. And you'll get a great workout; ideal for intermediate riders. Perfect ride for a quick commmute from 30 miles away; anything farther and I'd look for better trails.

The trailhead is not marked, so pay attention to the left side of the road as you come into the park; the primary trailhead begins after the first clearing of trees. You will actually be going into the trees after you cross the ditch.
