Killer 3 Loop - Trail, Wedgefield, Carolina

You have this trail listed as being in Pineville My home town, PINEWOOD, is the town name you seek. There is no PineVILLE in that area. Wedgefield is closer though

Park Ranger is a prick. Tried to write me up for $450.00 in fines. $250.00 for riding without a permit (no sign posted that stated permits where needed) and $200.00 for trespassing (park was closed due to hunting season....I don't hunt, so how was I suppost to know that).

The trail was ok, sandy at spots and very over grown....don't recommend

Great trail. Kudos to the local bikers who are pouring in their time to maintain these trails. We drove up from Savannah to ride somewhere that isn’t under water and we were pleasantly rewarded. Recent rains had packed the soil and made a fast and smooth surface. There are some sandy sections but these were not sufficient in number to dampen the fun factor. If you ride K3 you can also hit Campbell’s pond and the Red Loop which amounts to about 25 to 30 miles of some sweet singletrack.

It's been close to 10 years since I rode this loop and I didn't remember most of it. If you like spanish moss like I do, you're in for a treat. Minus a few tight sections, this trail can is fast: all middle and big ring stuff. Very little sand given the area, well marked, and maintained. This is a fun trail for speed, little technical skill needed. If you ride here, better have a pass (stop in at the headquarters for Manchester State Forest before you get to the trailhead parking lot).

I just figured I would freshen up this review a bit.
A group of friends and I have started going here lately and we love it. There is a good bit of sand in some spots but it is always good to be able to handle yourself through it and it makes for a stronger set of legs for sure. Killler 3 Loop is very technical with some very tight switch backs and a bit of climbing. There are some nice features scattered throughout but nothing to go crazy over.
To sum it all up, it is a great trail with 10.2 miles of nice technical single track and lots of pedaling. You can add another 5 by riding all of Hardcore which links into this.

My buddy talked me into going back here last weekend (4/14/07) and it was much improved. Sand was minimal, trail was simple to follow due to great signage, and we had a lot of fun. We did the 9+ mile killer 3 loop - it is quite tight and rooty in numerous sections - but still fun. Also 2 other trails were added since I was there last - either that or they just marked them better with signs. Might give them a try next time...

Some soft sand in spots, but not enough to slow us down or discourage. Lots of difference in terrain. Will ride again if I have the chance.

Look, this is a nice trail at the beginning...but then about 2 or 3 miles into it, out of nowhere there is soft sand waiting for you every 200 yards that completely stops you. We would be flying down a fun, whoopdeedo section and at the bottom of the stretch is 3 inch deep soft sand that kills all momentem... either that or it throws you off your back as your front tire dives off in the sand. So overall I (and my friend strongly agrees) would say this trail is bad. With out all the soft sand it would be fine...but then again most of the final 2/3 of the trial is soft sand. Do not recommend/ Wont be returning.
