idlewood - TRAIL

idlewood - Trail, langhorne, Pennsylvania

fastrack/guy's bikes sponsor a race there each season. ride over the soccer fields and you will find a gravel path near the football fieldfollow around to theleft to awider gravel path wood on your rightlook for a short down hill entrance, the (race) trail starts there. the mostly single track winds along an abandoned quarrythen you will start in to a slightly rocky dh. from there the trails go in differen directions. there is a really nice dh that takes you toward neshaminy creek(make a right hand turn at the bottom) there are also rocky sections along the creek. also a root filled climb and log hops in the woods. if you can follow the race route it is about a 4.5 mile loopcan be very technical. if you wan a fast ride go to pennypack. this ride is shorter but takes much more effort. i know that wissahickon is probably the best around but hikers, runners, horseback riders, & mtb'ers at each others throats. give idlewood a shot!

Huge   Racer [Jan 31, 2010]

Mountain biking classic trails. Tight, twisty and technical with short, intense climbs, fast DH's. Sections range from flat areas with log overs to creek valley traverses and switchbacks on precarious ledges. Loop is about 6.5 miles and be prepared for log overs, bridges and rocks. The locals know the layout, find one and be amazed how these trails flow when guided properly.
This trail can be done by a pro at 35 minutes, most of us will take 45. You need to be in shape and be a decent bike handler, the trails can be very difficult if you're having a bad day.

Best trailhead to enter is straight thru intersection after underpass, do not go left into school driveway. Follow this residential road up past the parked busses on left, about a 2-3 minute ride. Crest the hill and begin to descend, go past the guardrail about 75 feet, look for the trailhead.
Once you jump in you will want to stay left at junctions and cross a new wooden bridge, through the rollers and the rest is up to you.

Network of singletrack trails behind Neshaminy HS. Moderate elevation and plenty of hairpin singletracks. Ride can last for about 1-2 hrs if the loop is properly marked. Remnants of Races held during the year helps in maneuvering the trail system. Mostly XC trails with shot inclines (steep at som places). Water bars and roots cross the trails. Few rock gardens mostly towards the bottom of the hill towards the creek. Noticed wooden stunts in certain areas ignited by the freeriding scene. All in all a pleasant ride.

Customer Service

Park at the high school lot and ride to the back of the football field. Enter into the woods at visible trails.

A nice set of trails; not too long with a bunch of tough climbs (short) and some good downhills. I usually spend about 1.5 hours and cover everything, although new trails have been cut in over the past winter so the ride time may get longer. The quarry loop is fun once you figure out the best way to run it. When I was there this weekend I noticed that some yokels on ATV's had cut a bunch of new trail and had been riding it when the ground was very wet. The result was a maze of mud covered trail which disrupted the overall trail layout. I hope the ATV riders show more respect in the future or else there could be serious issues to deal with in the future.

Customer Service

I like to warm up on the trails behind the soccer field, hit the quarry and then go to the rough stuff along Neshaminy Creek.

This area is not too large, but it is very fun to ride in. It practically has everything in 4.5-5 miles. Jumps, downhills, complicated single track, you name it most likely has it there. You should check it out. If you do decide to ride here, check yourself out for TICKS before going home. They have been pretty bad in past few years in the area.

Pat's directions are good.

I rode this trail several times a week last summer when I lived close. Fun trail to sharpen your skills on. I learned quick that riding this trail durring a drought in the summer is a hell of a lot differnt then ridding it durring a wet fall. I hadn't ridden it for the month of October, when I went back in November it took on a whole new character. After the long dh the bottom near the stream was mud up to my hubs in some place!

Always a fun ride, I need to get back there soon!

I found out about thistrail a few years ago while watching my niece's softball game. Thank's to the annual race, I think I have found most of the trails. This is a great ride if you only have a short time span (45 min.-1 hour). It is also great for riding after work. The single track loop gives a great work out and enhances technical skills.

Customer Service

Start off the gravel road behind the football stadium and follow across to single track loop by little league fields.

Cool trails but kind of short. Not really worth a long ride to get to the trails, but if you live in the area give it a try, you'll like it.

Most trails are not for beginners. There is plenty of technical stuff in here. Rocky climbs and decents. Lots of great single track. You'll get a good cardio workout here. It's a nice 1.5 to 2 hr. ride if you hit everything. The students from the high school mountain bike class maintain the trails - and they do a very good job. There are several trail entrances around the perimiter of the soccer and football fields. This is,by far, the best place that I've ridden.
