Duff Park - TRAIL

Duff Park - Trail, Murrysville, Pennsylvania

Narrow singletrack to doubletrack that winds along the hill above Turtle Creek. There is also a couple mile stone road for beginners that parallels the creek. Duff is a 148-acre natural area located in hilly, heavily wooded terrain. It runs parallel to Route 22 and its main entrance is off School Road about 1000 feet south of the intersection with Route 22. There are numerous trails that can be used for a relaxing walk or a strenuous workout. The Funk Trail that runs along Turtle Creek and crosses it twice provides a flat walking and biking trail for about 1.5 miles and then goes up an incline until it reaches Round Top Road. The other trails provide the walker or biker with easy walking to strenuous climbs depending on the route chosen. Round Top Trail also connects to Round Top Road less than a mile west of Bessie Staymates Log House. There is a pavilion that provides a quiet site for a picnic or may be rented for group activities. There is a reason there are only three reviews (not counting this one) for this trail -- it's not a recommended ride. This trail is designed more for hikers; that is, there are few switchbacks and the trail ascends at an unforgiving angle. Additionally, this trail is not friendly to first-time users with all its connecting trails, most of which are not shown on the map (which can be obtained in the parking lot). When you're not climbing, the ride is quite nice, but these are just brief moments of bliss sprinkled between tens of minutes of frustration and agony. With so much better riding not 10 minutes away, I'd be hard pressed to ride this trail again.

The park mainly consists of single track with steep climbs and drops. The park is very compact but very fun. There is also a gravel trail that parallels Turtle creek for a warm up or for beginners. The gravel trail is shared by joggers also.

Water is availible from a fountain at the trail head from Spring to Fall.

My group went there after reading review on mtbr. Lots of fun. Not vety many miles but if combined with townsend park or boyce you can set up a nice loop. Some great climbs and eqully good downhills. If you live around Allegheny county its worth the trip if already riding at Boyce or Monroeville area.

Customer Service

Duff park can be pretty fun for an evening ride but thats about it. Its a small park so it tends to get boring a bit quickly. Its mostly twisty single track with lots of big uphills, or quick downhills depending whether yer goin up or down. Its probably one of the best places around to get a good cardio workout. Just dont plan on working on your bike handling skills theres nothing very difficult here.
5 stars if you want to blow up your lungs on a climb.
3 stars if you are looking for a fun ride.
