Lewis & Clark State Park off I-84 - TRAIL

Lewis & Clark State Park off I-84 - Trail, Troutdale Outlet Mall, Oregon

Fast with some twisty sections. Ride any direction you want. Very Flat: *maybe* 12 feet of elevation gain? Not Technical :( It has singletrack: you just need to hammer in the big ring to make it interesting. Has plenty of potential (PDX bikers should adopt this place, especially after the loss of most of the Powell Butte Trails...). A little trail maintenance would go a Loooong way here (trim the blackberry vines, signange for deadends, etc.) Ride at night to spice it up (try not to runover the homeless people camped out there) but you probably don't want to park the car at the trailhead b/c of the broken glass... (try parking & riding from Troutdale).

watch for flats from blackberry vines.
occassional hikers around corners.

Clockwise loop. some trails dead end; some are overgrown with blackberry vines. With a little work this place could handle a lot of riders and yield many more rideable trails (some trails 'almost' go through or are overgrown).

The other rider is right on the money this could be a great riding area. Some great tight single track in the tree sections. Has a central fire road that will take you to the Columbia River, and is great for fast sprints. I have found that from the parking lot (by the freeway on & off ramp), go north on the fire road witch will loop around to the West after a big rock section then up a small hill. stay on fire road when you get to the big power lines (over head type), go North to the Columbia River. For those types like me that like sand and rocks you can ride the beach West to the mouth of the Sandy River outlet, or go East along the river beach. Great workout keeping up the speed on the sand and rock! There are some single track to the East of the main fire road that will loop you back to the parking lot. One more thing I have gone East as far as 3/4 of a mile tying to find how far you could go, the grass got so high that I could just make out the I-84 to the South. Take my word not the smart thing to do!

I live in Troutdale OR. so I ride from my house to this spot. But it is just North of Lewis & Clark State Part on the North side of I-84.

Similar Products Used: Not the greatest place to ride but I live close to it. Lot of berry bushes and thorns just stay on the fire road and the single track sections an you will be ok. I would rate it as "Beginner". Use for testing out that new bike you just bought! Any one that would like some one to ride with here just email me to hook-up something.
