South Willamette Trail - TRAIL

South Willamette Trail - Trail, Oakridge, Oregon

This is the easiest trail in the Hardesty area. The trail has three basic climbs, regardless of which end you start at, the middle one being the most prolonged. It was not well groomed; lots of down trees and poison oak. Make sure to use Technu before, during and after riding this trail. Can be combined with Hardesty and Eula to make a loop.

It might be a good trail to ride by oneself on busy days on Hardesty and Eula, though for the same workout, Goodman Creek and Eagle's Rest is more entertaining and has a great overlook at the top. Some of the old growth is absolutely stunning on the trail and several of the bridges were fantastic, though one was washed out. A summer trail, as it gets very wet during the off season.

I've lived in Eugene for 6 months and didn't really think any trails were that close that would be easy to get to for some quick rides. This trail is only 30 minutes out of Eugene! There are not many flat portions, so you are either riding up steep hills or dropping down the other side. super fun singletrack though. It's about 6 miles one way, and you can ride back to the parking area via a dirt road along the railroad tracks across the highway if you dont have it in you to ride back on the trail.

Pros - heavily forested (aka barely any poison oak), close to Eugene, great scenery

Cons - a bit overgrown (unless you dont mind getting clotheslined by blackberries and having you shins whipped constantly by ferns)
