Clackamas River Trail - Trail, Estacada, Oregon

Clackamas River Trail - Trail, Estacada, Oregon

DESCRIPTION

Highly Technical! Lots of up and down hills. Very narrow trail at parts with 100 - 200 feet drop offs ending in the Clackamas river! Make sure your bike and tires are in top shape. This trail will put them to the test. You can either ride back to your vehicle the same way you came, or by the highway. You can also, with two vehicles, park at both ends of the trail. You'll need to stop at the Ranger Station just prior to entering Estacada to purchase a $3.00 trail head parking permit. This trai is awesome! Bring your camera for some incredible scenery.

This is the best trail in the Portland, OR area that very few people ride. It is technical, thrilling, and very DANGEROUS. The steep drop off is intimitating on it's own, then you throw in the rocks and slick surface and it just gets better. This is a wet ride in the winter, and a cool trip in the summer.

This trail is scary as hell! It is technical, slippery and down-right intimidating. Lots of rocks and roots that threaten to throw you off 100' cliffs into the river. Great fun for advanced or careful intermediate riders. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!

Do the shuttle or prepare to be wiped out for a week!

not challenging elevation-wise, but just what singletrace should be...tight and pretty technical in places. This is probably the best ride near Portland. Best route is to ride trail to where it intersects bridge and then do the 7 1/2 road ride back.

lets put it this way.....just because you think you are an above average rider, doesnt mean you are. Just because you have a cool bike, doesnt mean youre John Tomac. This is the type of trail that wakes you up to reality. Like the one guy said, its not hard as far as elevation gain, but, right when you think you are getting into your groove and feeling relaxed, your front wheel washes out and you cheat death for a few seconds. The trail is ~3 ft wide the whole ride. This is alright in places, but not the places that will throw you straight down into the river. Dont under estimate any of the corners and look out for the waterfall....its bitchn. Half thru the single track, it is less groomed, so keep your eyes open for a few chunks of old growth lying down. This is a true 8 mile down and 8 mile back. So, dont do what i did, bring water, food, friend, and a first aid kit would be cool. This trail is very similar to the Skookum trails in Washington. This trail does kick ass, but respect it. I wanna give a shout out to the couple i met in the parking lot that made it thru after a long day of riding and to "Diamond Dave" the mystery rider rockstar on the mrazek, i think he did it twice.

Really nice trail, for every "up" there is a nice "down" to get your blood flowing. Fair amount is car noise because of the highway. We were kinda confused because of the sign at the start. It looked like a bike sign with a no entry circle over it. It was apparently for motorcycles.

THIS TRAIL IS CLOSED TO BIKES AND HAS BEEN FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS! We stopped by the estacada ranger station for our parking permit and they said "I hope your not thinking your going to ride the Clackamas river trail, It is closed to bikes."
If you are into poaching trails and like the thrill of getting thrown off than this is probably the trail for you, Otherwise steer clear of this waste of time!

I found out, after the fact, that this beauty is now closed to bikes. Awesome scenery with seasonal waterfalls and excellent views of the Clackamas River. The trail isn't that technical but the nice, windy singletrack is very narrow for much of the duration. At times it narrows to 2 feet wide or less where the one side is bordered by a drop into the river - and I mean a DROP from 100 to 200 feet so it can be intimidating for some and suicidal for out-of control, show off types. Climbing isn't too bad as there are lots of ups and downs. Since it is closed, I cannot recommend riding it BUT IF YOU DO, please do so in the evenings when there is less chance of running into hikers (lots of narrow blind corners which is why it is closed).

None - DO NOT RIDE - CLOSED TO BIKES!
(SYSOP Should remove trail from list)

The ranger district closed the trail because it simply is not wide enough to safely pass hikers at many points. I was told that another good LEGAL area starts near the power lines at Roaring River Campground and also to check out Rock Lakes Basin and Shell Lake Basin, all nearby in the Mt. Hood National Forest, and all LEGAL to MTB riding.
