Burma Peak - Trail, Dallas, Oregon

Burma Peak - Trail, Dallas, Oregon

DESCRIPTION

Long uphill climb on logging roads to trailhead. Technical sections and windfall all over the place. Rolling terrain with screaming fast downhill in sections. Tight turns, technical downhills, rock gardens, mud pits... everything you could hope for and more. Excellent ride at night if your batteries last. Just follow the trails to the bottom. Not recommended for the meek or inexperienced...If you make it to the trailhead, you are neither meek nor inexperienced. There's a pretty cool cave a mile from one fork of the ascent if you can find it.

This was my first visit to Burma, but not my last. Interval climbs up paved and fire roads lead to windy, flowy forested singletrack interrupted by rocky exposed clear cuts with killer views. Session "Gonzo" a few times before it's clear cut. Send the roller-coaster and subsequent drop and get you some.

Park on Martin road where the large tree has been placed on the side of the road, looks like an old quarry. Head back down the road to the fork (Martin/Robb Mill) and head up Robb Mill for about 5 miles. You'll go from paved to rocky to fire road and wind up near Gonzo.

Black Rock is almost the antithesis of this trail system, with berms and groomers and all the fancy jazz. Burma is all-mountain and will satiate your need for single track without all of the bells and whistles (AND PEOPLE, mostly pompous downhillers ;) ) of Black Rock.

Rode here yesterday with a new friend - Salem local - whom I had met in Washington two days prior. He showed me the main trail, Burma, and another amazing trail called Gonzo. Weather was bit rainy (what can you expect for the first week of February?), so riding conditions weren't exactly perfect. But besides that, the day was great. Gonzo, one of the trails in the network, was told to be the crown jewell of the Dallas network. After hitting it, I'd agree! The trail is swoopy and has lots of little jump opportunities for the more aggressive XC rider (easily avoidable if you like to keep your wheels on the ground).

The Burma trail itself was similar. Starts off with your first downhill of the day (after the decently lengthily road climb), then starts a very short single track climb. After this, you are pretty much thrown into an epic XC downhill course. A few log ride overs and some little bumps into the trail can make this course more exciting for the aggressive XC, but are not required to do if you're more timid. Crosses a few roads on the way down. Mostly smooth and in the summer one could definitely rail these trails.

Some new trails have been outlined, but there seems to be a lack of people willing to work on them and the people who are willing have busy lives. Come see the trails and help out! This place has lots of potential.

Trails seem especially good for a night ride or short loop. Combine with other trails in the area for epic route.

Customer Service

Park at bottom, ride Robb Mill Rd up, hit Gonzo, continue on to Burma trailhead, descend and ride back to vehicle.

Used to ride this all the time, but lately due to logging activity and other factors - it's just not the best opportunity anymore. The Black Rock trails are just a bit further (Falls City vs Dallas) but offer FAR more single-track... and that's all well-maintained and is a designated "recreation trail" where-as the status of Dallas trails is questionable at best.

You wont find a better trail in Oregon. This trail has the most fun singletrack decent per fire road climb I've ever ridden. Every time you ride this trail it gets funner!

Trail is fun and fast, it's been ridden so much its not real technical. The trail after Velvet off to the left "The Hobbit" has just been logged. Just proves we need to build more trails to make it more interesting and technical

5-0 Alert!! FYI, I was riding up there last weekend & ran into Polk co. sherrif on rd 1924. He said he is issuing tickets to any vehicles past the yellow gate! Evidently land owners & 'mountain bikers' complained of vehicles on those roads.

This trail system just keeps getting better with age. Lots of Fast Single track. Rock gardens, log crossings, mud, tight rolling turns, drops, jumps, etc... There is definately something for everyone. E-Mail for trail maps

Head east out of Dallas on Ellendale Rd about 2-3 miles. Go straight onto gravel road. Park on your left just past the white bridge. Several ways to get the the trail heads, just check out the map I have.

Phenomenal single track!!!!! Some of the better riding I've experienced in the NW. Long climb to the trails but worth the burn. Fast, overgrown downhill with trails branching off everywhere. Rode Tanglewood and Bear Meadow (totally overgrown and very narrow groove trail). Will definitely return. Be kind to the Quarry and timber companies as this is their land and available through their generosity.

Customer Service

1900 out past quarry the up 1920 to Tanglewood. Will take a while. Can hop on numerous single tracks at the base of 1920. This will lead to steep climbs - LOOK OUT for people coming downhill!

You need to ride with someone that knows these trails as a first attempt. These are some of the best riding in oregon and a well kept secret. They offer every thing you could expect in a coast forest trail: long climbs, rolling single track, mud holes, awesome decents, scary drop off's, teeter totters and skybridges (discovery trail)... al la british columbia.

Customer Service

One hour from SW portland area.
