Blue Ridge Trail System - Trail, Coos Bay, Oregon

Blue Ridge Trail System - Trail, Coos Bay, Oregon

DESCRIPTION

Bring your bike if you're visiting the Coos Bay/North Bend area. 12 miles of mostly intermediate trails. Shared use with atv/motorcycles will get the area pretty rutted at times, which can discourage flowy seekers, but you have to be a flow snob not to have a good time. Motorcycles are rarely encountered, and don't expect to see other bikers. 90% of the time you'll have the trails to yourself. June through October should be plenty rideable with a couple dry days, but during rainy season there are very few windows of opportunity where mud isn't a major factor.

Weekend Warrior

12 miles of trails southeast of Coos Bay Oregon. Intermediate level riding with a couple beginner trails. Lots of fun, with typical coastal rolling hills--50 yards uphill, 50 yards downhill, and repeat. Dries faster than the nearby Winchester Trails, in my experience, but moisture is almost always a factor. June through October should be good with a couple rain-free days. Rainy season is dicey. Shared use with ATV/motorcycles can create ruts. Don't expect lots of flow. However, I almost never see motorcyclists, and I have never seen another bike rider on the trails. Spoiled cyclists from Bend/Eugene/Oakridge/Ashland might not think much of these trails, but for the coast, the riding is legit. There's something for most riders.

Customer Service

See Moe's bike shop in North Bend for a map. Trail conditions vary depending upon time of year and motorcycle usage. A trail that's good one month might be torn up the next--though I've never found one I didn't want to ride for any reason other than mud and standing water.

Winchester Trails off 101 are more rooty and technical. Supposedly up to 18 miles of trails, but some of those miles are unkept and almost unrideable. Pretty advanced riding on most trails, though I haven't hit them all. No flow, rutty, root fest. Great fun if you like to concentrate, pick lines, and speed bump your way through the forest.
