This used to be a fun place to go ride. It has been logged and destroyed. Destroyed so much that I would say this trail listing should be removed. :(

Very sad

Unfortunately Norm's Trails remain covered in blow down. In addition, the logging that was always looming over Norm's head is now taking place. This is actually a good thing, as it opens the possibility of bringing some of the trails back.

We've been gathering Astoria/ Clatsop County based mountain bikers together, and are in the process of reclaiming the Taylorville Trails (near Wauna) as well as the trails above.

Unfortunately the "hurricane" here in Dec of '08 wiped these trails out. It appears someone is working on rebuilding a bit, but it always runs into massive tree falls. Too bad :(

My friends and I went and Rode norm's The weekend of October 31st. The trail had been completely demolished by a storm. trees down everywhere. I haven't heard if it is cleared off yet, so I am trying again this weekend. I'll get back to you.

Good stuff if you're in the area looking for some solid cross country trail. If any locals read this please contact me at davidsmeisner@comcast.net cause I'd like to help chear some of the trees, especially the big ones off of the trails. Some of the really fun trails aren't useable right now due to big blow down. High Joy is one that comes to mind, the Cross Over trail and others I can't think of the name of. I'm working in the area every other week and would love to show up with and help clear the trails and do my part to keep this great network flowing. Someone has been cutting trees but a lot more needs to be done. I've been doing some brushing, clearing small brush though I want to get those big trees outta there. Hook me up so I can help out. I've not worked a chain saw though could rent one and give er a go if someone else was there in case I cut my leg off or got flattened by a big roller. Catch you later.
-David.

Rode Norms trails about a month ago. Wanted to get the word out that most all, 99% of all the built up stuff has deteriated and rotted away. The trails are still great for easy to extremely technical cross country with steeps, tons of wet roots and sick climbs. Do beware though. There's a section in this trail system called Snake Bite where there used to be some great log rides with medium consequence. I walked over one dangerous unstable slippery bridge hoping to locate more stuff on other other side though 1/2 way across the bride the deteriated ladder that is about 6 feet above a streem started to rock back and forth. I didn't want to go back across so I exited on a dirt road with No Tresspassing signs hoping to reconnect with another section of trail up the road. Do not do this. I got a seriously psyco gun toating, screaming, froathing at the mouth wild man going off about us @&*%#! mountain bikers crossing his land. He threatened to shoot me, take my bike and told me others might do the same if his buds saw me in the area. I think his bark was worse than his bite but the dude was shooting his gun into the woods around me after he followed me off his property. So you probably don't want to crss the no-tresspassing signs around here due to crazy logger types probably doing way to much meth. The trails though are fun and very challenging is parts. Lots of sections to pull together and it's hard to get lost because most trails lead back to connecting veins back to your car. Have fun and watch out for barking chasing big dogs and wacked out crazies who aren't IMBA members. Piece.

To all Norm's Trails users:
There has been a large amount of vandalism this summer on the trails. I talked to Norm personally and he described the two guys responsible for it. If you see anyone on either a motorbike or a quad on the trails, its probably the red-neck, white-trash, losers doing the damage. They have torn down many of the signs and maps, making it harder to find your way around the maze of trails. These trails are really fun, but they need your help. If you see these c#*@suckers on the trail, please provide a severe beating to them...as its obvious they lack all intellegence and common sense. And if your one of the sabators and your reading this...I'm going to catch you one of these days, and when I do, your going to get the beating of your life!!!
