Lake Fredrick - Trail, Manitou, Oklahoma

Lake Fredrick - Trail, Manitou, Oklahoma

DESCRIPTION

The trail goes around the lake with some excursions out into what seems to be the middle of nowhere. There are some technical areas, but most beginners should be able to handle them. Cactus and thorns are abundant so slime your tubes and bring some tweezers.

Last year I rode this trail once or twice a month. Haven't been out there in a while so I went this weekend (12-11-04). On this weekend I went to the north end only to find it has been fenced and gated. The north end is on private property, so I respect the landowners gates, but I sure hate to not have the option of a bail out / shuttle ride. The trails are very overgrown, hard to find in many places now. Also some of the trails on the western edge are becoming very eroded and will need some TLC.

Customer Service

I did prefer to start at the down wind side (north or south) and ride into the wind and have a tail wind on the way back. With the private side closed now you will need to start at the park side (south) and head north.

The condition of this trail is deteriorating. I rode it last fall and got most of the way around the lake before the trail faded too much to follow. This time I started on the south side of the lake and got only three or four miles before losing the trail. Went back and tried the north side with the same results. Apparently there isn't enough activity to keep it clear enough to see. Needs more riders.

Customer Service

Doesn't matter - just start and go as far as you can.

I thought this was going to be an OK ride, I wasnt looking for big hills or anything. This ride turned out to be a huge dissapointment. It is flat, the trail is LONG, and boring. There is not much excitment in the 16 miles of strait and winding trail. This totally different from any other trails in the area, like the ones in the Wichitah Mountains. I cant even reccomend this trail to a beginner, since it doesnt offer any short technial places to improve and get better on. There is also no shade for 99% of the ride, it is all exposed.

Customer Service

Well, since the whole thing stinks pretty evenly, it really doesnt matter. In fact, there are trails going off in different directions in places, and the signs labeled "B" and "E" dont help at all.

For people living in Southwestern Oklahoma it's one of the closer local trails. It's a good place for a beginer to put up some off road miles and live to tell about it. The trail still needs some work, because it just seems to die out at one point on the far side of the lake.

Customer Service

It's another trail around a lake, so you've only got two choices.

I rode this the day before the race just to check it out. (didn't race cuz I'm a puss) You get a little bit of everything. Singletrack through grass, then up and down wash-out areas, then zig-zags through what little trees there were. The trails were pretty well marked. Some of it was on a jeep road also. It was about 13 miles long and my lungs were killing me. Not much shade and bring water. The facilities are nice with bathrooms and warm showers right by the parking area in with the campers. I'm a beginner, really, and I dug it. If you were really technical, you might get bored. Although, there was an expert section that I didn't go on. The endurance workout it great.

Customer Service

easy to get to, lots of signs
