Lake Elk City Bike Trail - Trail, Elk City, Oklahoma

DESCRIPTION

Over 11 miles of all kinds of track. Rocky steep decents and rocky steep climbs, with 90 percent single track and 10 percent double track. Circles the lake. Takes about 2 hours to ride the track leisurely, or about 1 hour and fifteen minutes on raceday. Some mud, some sand, some rock, and some dirt. A very fun course that 80 percent can be riden by beginners. Have fun, and wear a helmet. Mountain bike race there every year in March. Appr. 300 riders.

first of let me say props to the group the worked to put this trial together. there are not many in western oklahoma, and it's good to have an outlet if you live in the area. that being said, this is not a trial i would recommend traveling to ride. i you happen to be in the area, stop in, but otherwise you will be disappointed. it's western ok, what do you expect. the trial is mostly flat with lose rock. it has some nice rolls and some areas of switchbacks. it is not for those who want a solid ride. if you move quick it will give you a bit of a workout, but you will not exert yourself. lots of little drops. i got pinch flats on both tires.

1-40 to hwy 6, then south 1 mile to lakeview, then west to washington, turn in at the lake elk city sign. you will see two trialheads, one with a sign and one with a blue marker. ride the blue marker.

This was a fun ride, although some of the steep stuff South of the dam was a little to much for me. The rest of the ride was more to my liking, especially the old motorcross track. If you keep your speed up, it feels like what I imagined to be a bobsled ride would be like (cool).

Some good jumps and technical portions, but mainly flat and boring. There are hardly any trees or brush, just a single track out in an open field. A good twelve mile workout with some grueling hills though.

This is a fun and challenging ride. If you follow the maked signs get ready for some decent climbs early in the course. If you're a beginer you might want to ride it backwards and then skip the "pits" area. This is good course to steer clear of if it's rained recently. The Western Oklahoma Pedlers have done good with this one.

Customer Service

You can follow the marked signs from the trial head, or for a change of pace you can ride it backwards.

Nice trails... But over buy the trees west of the lake, someone needs to cut through the trees so we can go on that trail, makes you feel like I was in a jungle. IF that trail was took care of, that trail would be very nice to ride. Other than that, the trails were good, will ride again.

I picked up tons of big stickers on the way to the dam, but no goatheads. The 'pits' area is 1 mile of loose roller coaster stuff. (Some riders should bypass the pits area. Instead of turning left after crossing the dam, go straight ahead and continue the loop.) After that lots of cross country with stream crossings and even some woods. Several spots require careful attention or you will break something.

Great job of running the trail along the cool cliffs and water holes. In the lowlands north of the lake, the 'Pinball Loop' was boggy even though the rest of the trail was dusty. Does this loop ever dry out ? Stay up high and bypass the loop, only about 1 or 2 hundred feet. Cool iron bridge w/ wooden planks after that, and a descent of a slick waterfall. Watch for cows.

A bold and creative trail. Loop'd'loops, open cross country, woods. The rocks and climbs are looser than Roman Nose. It's a long 12 miles. Will ride this trail many more times. Four knobs.

Customer Service

Ride towards the the dam to begin.

This trail is a blast! The previous reviews don't do this trail justice. There's los of drops, loose climbs, technical areas, areas where you can haul *ss, etc. There is the pit area which is on the SE side of the dam. If you can climb all that stuff, you're the man/woman. There's an area over on the SW side of the lake where the dirt is fast and hardpacked. You can just about ride on the walls when you're flying around the corners.
