I rode the trail for the first time on 10/27/13. It was a wet, muddy day. It was definitely rideable and there were quite a few people on the trail, but there were a few spots that were very muddy.

I am a new rider and found this trail to be pretty challenging. There was nothing dangerous but it was a technical ride and it was difficult to get a good flow going due to my lack of skills. For newer riders, I'd definitely recommend Royalview in Strongsville over this trail.

AKA "The Thorn" MTB Trail
I am updating my old review because this place has changed a bit - for the better, of course!
It is now very close to 10 mi. All the classic lines are still there, but thanks to Nab and the boys a new section has been added to include 2 creek crossings and some fast twisty's. The faster you go, the tougher it gets. And while it is quite flat, anyone can get a really good workout here while having fun. For the racers, there are about 1,000 chances to gain or lose time, which is what makes the Tues. time trials in the Summer such a big hit.
For the novices, nothing terribly daunting awaits you, but the short, steep climbs will catch you, and there are bypasses for some of the trickier stuff.
Trail is often wet (and closed) early in the season, but once it dries out it gets ridden in and gets faster throughout the season. Getting around the campground is easy with a map, allowing you to cut your ride short if you're not feeling your mojo.

Excellent trail close to Cleveland. Nothing super tough, just lots of twisty, fairly flat riding with more log stunts being added regularly. A few short steep drops and climbs- just enough to keep it interesting, plus the last section has lots of roots to make it challenging. Awesome new bridge at old creek crossing after steep drop. Definitely worth the trip from Cleveland.

Customer Service

Mountain bike parking area is left from park entrance. Enter trail on left past gate. Follow clockwise. Do the stunts- there's nothing dangerous.

This is a gem of a trail for north central Ohio. The trail builders did a great job with what they had to work with. Fun small ups and downs, with tight twisty single track. Trail also has some fun log rollovers, and other wooden stunts built to make flat sections more interesting. Lots of roots to keep you honest. If you are in this area I highly suggest stopping by. My hat is off to the trail builders, thanks.

Fun trail, kind of flat, some cool stunts on the far side of the lake, it cross a beach, so on hot days it's fun to stop a take a dip cool off and get back on the trail.

I had ridden this several times about 2 yrs. ago. It was about 7 mi.
Today I rode it - starting at a speed that I thought was good for 7 mi. At mile 7 I kinda pooped out and the trail kept going. It requires constant attention from the rider if you are trying to carry some speed. Mostly flat, LOTS of tight turns, roots, logs, but plenty of space to open it up and fly through the forest (try not to get ahead of yourself). Things happen fast: quick turns, quick climbs, brake hard, pedal hard - lots of fun. btw - I knocked my bars on about 5 or 6 trees - they are close! Only stopped once, though. I suppose speed should be somewhat controlled - not a lot of blind corners, but shared trail nonetheless. It has been greatly improved in that the amount of dirt under wheel is about 99%. The roads have been cut out - it's all singletrack! Other nice features are log stunts to test your balance - all with a bypass (if I recall correctly), and trail features that test and improve your bike handling skills. Some thought definitely went into it. Nice job! Lots of work in that trail.
I give it a 3 on an absolute scale of trails. I would give it a 5 if it was on a mountain.

Follow signs and tiny red reflectors - sometimes you have to look around for them - clockwise around the lake. Nice area to camp, fish, canoe, swim, hike, XC ski.

I ride this as ofter as I can, mostly because it's so close to my home. But that's not to say it's the only reason I ride so often. Mostly I ride it because it's one of the best trails in Ohio. Great trail in Ohio are rare. With long distances between each. So to have this trail so close works out great for me. The great Guys who built this trail need to thanked much for they're hard work. This trail has some former hiking trails that where off limits to MTBikers. But that not saying this is a hiking trail. Most of this trail was made with Mtbiking in mind. My favorite is the Roller Coaster. It has a quick grunt climb to a switch back into a group down a ups that you can't help having giant smile on your face. If you live anywhere near this trail, get out and do it.

I ride this trail every chance that I get, mostly because is very close to where I live. But not just because it's so close. Mostly because it's a great trail. It's not mostly hiking trails. it's has many new single track, built by many hard working Mountainbikers. My favorite is section has four fast down and ups. I call it the Triple Bye Pass. By time you get to the end you can't help having a big smile on your face. There are plans for new trails in the future. A must ride for anyone in the area. Without a doubt the best trail in Ohio now.

I feel this is now one of the best trails in N-OHIO. The north coast MTBers have turned this alright trail into a race series stop premium sigletrack for OHIO. The course is flowy, mainly flat with some short steep climbs, Titter/Totters, Nice log rides and other tree related stunts, creek crossings, tight turns. 8 miles+-, stays very wet so give it about 5-7 days if it has been raining. Much Thanks To builders and Parks Dept. Findley State Park Wellington, OH

The trailhead / Parking is to the left when you enter the park just past the beach and concession stand. There are trail maps here. It is called the Thorn MTB Trail. You can access the trail from any parking lot so don't worry if you can't find the official start. Clockwise trail traffic. Nice State Park camping availible with the trail steps from your tent, (be weary of the Nazi(Park)Rangers.) Lake with canoe and small boats to rent during summer. Nice weekend getaway. The trail is all singletrack now. It is an eight mile loop. It is still mostly flat and twisty with just a couple of small hills.

The rest of the above info is still correct.
