Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park - TRAIL

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park - Trail, Mandan, Dakota

Series of trails within the state park. Mostly hardpack single track which doubles as horse trails, though I didn't see any horses, or other people for that mater. I would rate the trails between beginner and intermediate only because of some steep drop offs on the outside of some fast corners.

Best I could find in the immediate area while visiting from out of town. The Maah Daah Hay was just a little to far away. It's $5 for a day pass to enter the state park, and they'll give you a map of the trails when you enter. Pretty easy, but there are a few sharp corners with steep drop offs on the outside that may surprise or intimidate newbs.

Park at the trailhead identified on the map, it's at the bottom of a short steep paved climb up to a parking lot. Climb the hill, cross the parking lot and head toward the Post Cemetery, cool off on the easy run along the Bob-Tailed Bull Pass, rolling prairie single track. Take a left and do Little Sioux Loop (don't bother doing this one CCW imho) Stay left and hit Little Soldier Loop in a CW direction. Stop and turn around after you've traversed along the ridge overlooking the river before you start the downhill decent back to the Trailhead, and do the Little Soldier CCW and enjoy some fast rolling hard pack along the ridge with a couple of small places you can catch a little air. Cut back across Bob-Tailed Bull Pass to Little Sioux loop again, and follow the same route back to the trail head this time finishing the DH portion of Little Soldier Loop. There's a couple fun fast banked corners to enjoy. Repeat as necessary :-)
