I think this trail is "officially" closed, but it's relatively well maintained and a group has been out there setting up some really fun stuff. There are also signs asking riders to keep the place clean, well maintained, etc. Good stuff.

Now to the riding. I honestly think I only saw about half of the trail. But in that half I had several jumps spanning 5-10 ft mini gullies, a few big jumps, several decent gully drop-ins, and a couple of Northshore style stunts. One is a jump up onto a bridge, then shortly after about a 10 ft drop into a 15 ft gully. You come up the other side of that gully, hit a nice curved wall, then drop back down into a smaller gully with a sweet jump at the end.

I never found the 30 ft gully, but I'll be going back on the hunt.

On the other side of the lake (across the dam) there wasn't much to speak of. All the fun stuff seems to be between the linville road-I-40 intersection and the lake.

They got some crazy stuff out there, you really wouldn't realize it but just ride some of the back trails and it will lead you to some intense stuff out there. i broke my wrist going off a jump out there pretty lame im out for over a month cause of one jump that i have only landed once and it was a sketchy landing but thought i could go bigger and that didn't go great. but the main trail is just for riding around nothing speacial or hard just pedal and go but go off trail and its a great couple of hours of riding hard and fun stuff to do, and by the power lines there is some real fast single track.

this is an amended review to mine above. I forgot to mention the trails in the woods. There are signs posted on the main trail(dirt road around the lake) that plainly tell you to stay on the main trail only.So that leads you to believe all the trails in the woods are illegal. That being said I am not reccommending anyone ride on them. But they are pretty good trails even if they do end up being kinda hit & miss(they don't really link and you find different parts all around the lake). They have great potential and can be very challenging. The ideal thing would be for an organized mtn. bike group or club that has a good relationship with parks&rec to get formal permission to build and properly maintain those trails. That would build goodwill and make everybody happy and lessen the risk of them closing the trails and making it hard on everyone. They do a great job on the trails at Hobby Park and it would be good to see something like that at Salem Lake.

Great place to walk or ride-however too few directional signs and mileage signs along the trails-decided to try walking all around the lake this week and got lost-I stayed on the trails but ended up getting a ride back to my car from a very kind stranger-I never made it back to Linville Road where car was parked trying to walk. I found that even though the trail is very pleasant and I enjoy walking it, I would never again try to walk it for fear that I could get lost once again. Is there anyplace that I can view a map of the lake, trail and surrounding roads???

Killer technical trail, probably 10 miles of total interconnected trails. Don't go here looking for an XC race course. There are alot of options here. Lots of log crossings and several log rides off the trail. Someone started building stunts too. Awesome gullies. Found a new one that is just a huge G-out, bout 30 feet straight down and straight back up, hard to make it out of. Few people know about this one, it's near the trail that goes to the store at the Interstate. Salem Lake is where all the local roadies that race MTB need to go to get some technical skills, bunch of sissies.

Dude

I started mtb here before I moved to Az. Very cool, but it's the best when wet. I thought that it was hard until I moved west. Thoughs gullies are still the coolest things that I've ever rode on. I'm still getting the dirt out of my teeth from all the times I plowed.
