Hell's Half Acre - TRAIL

Hell's Half Acre - Trail, Raleigh, Carolina

Brand new trail, about four miles in total length, and I need help riding it in. There are many log stacks, climbs, a few good downhills, and a couple of jumps. Only two skybridges are up att both about 35 feet in length. No rooty sections yet, a few rock gardens and a couple of nasty switch backs make it not for the faint of heart. If you are a beginner I would stay away, this trail requires more technicall skills than Rocky in my honest opinion, very fast moving trail in the middle, the beginning needs some work b/c it is very tree filled and a weedwacker can't get rid everything.

If this is the same place described in the above trail review, it appears to be nothing more than a few scattered horse trails. Saw a few horses out here and that was about it. The trail (I use the word "trail" in the most liberal sense) in not well defined and hard to follow. Unless some major clearing work is performed (not just riding), this area will generally remain unrideable to mountain bikers. Some areas are severly eroded due to the heavy horse traffic and their tendancy to obliterate any and all trail.

I have to agree with ED. I do thin that this trail could be made into something good if the horses are kept off of it, and some major clearing is done. He-Man e-mail me if you would like some help clearing this out.

I rode this once last year and it was in decent shape. However, I checked it out about 6 months ago and I agree with ED, it needs a lot of work. The horses from Ebeneezer go here. You can follow their trail all the way over to Ebeneezer Church and enter Umstead. I work near here and can enter these "trails" from the back of the cemetary.

I rode this trail from my house about 6-7 years ago, a few times a month. Mostly to get to Umstead and Lake Crabtree. But you could still ride around the lake at Crabtree then, so it was worth it. I wouldn't bother with this now.
