I don't what Parham was thinking when he said the ride would take 4 hours. It took us 1:56 ride time to do the 12 mile loop. It was a fast ride with a nice 3.8 mile forest road ascent and tight 1 mile downhill. There are several tree falls, but it's still worth the ride. After reaching the swinging bridge at South Mills River, this is a great place for a snack and some picts! Then we ascending 3 miles up and past the Bennet Gap connector. The grade was PERFECT for a fast climb out. Continuing out, we were awarded with a nice double track downhill with jumps at the end to the forest service road. There is an absolutely awesome swimming hole on the way out of that loop. It is huge. Would be great for a warm weather end of ride swim.

Same way as described in Parhams book. 3.8 miles ascent up gated forest service road. Drop into the woods on single track. Turn right at Horse Cove (4.5 mile) intersection towards Squirrel Gap. At 6.9 mile cross swinging bridge. Take trail to right after crossing bridge. Ascend on double track to gate. Go around gate onto forest road.
