As the builder of this trail I feel that this is one of the better trails in Eastern North Carolina. This trail was originally built in 1993. It is about 6 miles of single track, and currently has repairs being preformed. As over the years it has not had the time and attention that is required to keep up a trail that is used like this one. Yes there are roots, and plenty of them. I feel that the roots are the rock of the western part of the state. Attention is being paid to the sections that the roots are the worst, but the trail will remain the same and difficulty will remain like it is right now. This trail is aboard a U.S. Marines Corps Air Station, and access is with a sponsor unless you are active duty armed forces, or retired. Contacting Mike Moody at the Bike Depot will allow you to meet up with someone that will be able to get you a one day pass to ride the Pit. Yes it is well worth the trip, and a great ride. I ride the Pit about 3 to 4 times a week. Never gets old. You can ride either clockwise, or counter clockwise. It is two different trails when ridden this way.

Bicycle Post Trail in Greenville, probably the only trail I would rate over this trail. Awesome trail especially for Eastern NC.

This trail is a good trail for Beginner or Expert riders. It's a good combination of Technical riding as long as some points you can gain speed. Wether you ride it only once or three times a week, it's always a challenge.

A very nice ride for Eastern NC. Some corners are sandy and some sections have plenty of roots. One fast section is setup like a grove where you can drift up on banked corners. Overall a very good trail for the area and it is usually dryer than other trails in the region.

Customer Service

Follow the marked route since the trail flows better that way.

Given post 9/11 security it may be much harder to gain access to this trail - My MWR base base is taking a long time to get renewed.
