Reedy Fork - TRAIL

Reedy Fork - Trail, Greensboro, Carolina

The trail primarily follows the Reedy Fork Creek (hence the name) from the Lake Townsend Dam down to Lake Jeanette at Plainfield Rd. Trail difficulty mostly roots and narrow clearances, though one side section has a technical climb/descent. 1st 1/3 Starting from Lawndale Dr., trail is twisty, sometimes wet, flat singletrack following creek, then crosses two bridges and heads into drier woods. Trail forks at second bridge - most keep right. 2nd 1/3 Trail climbs gradually though forest, then drops down before gearing up for the one big climb on the trail. Take right fork for steep downhill leading to long, very steep uphill climb to rejoin trail. If you don't want more roots, turn around here and stay right. Watch for sharp left on this fork - if you go right instead, you'll find doubletrack leading to the dirt road heading north along the petroleum pipeline ROW. Otherwise ride on to go back to the second bridge. 3rd 1/3 Trail is mostly flat but becomes very rooty all the way to Plainfield Rd.

A nice trail that links up Blue Heron with the rest of the GSO trails ie Wild Turkey, Owls Roost etc...

This trail has been somewhat neglected next to the two newest trails Blue Heron and Wild Turkey. BUT, as it is the link between the BH and WT, Reedy is starting to get more attention with new bridges, reroutes, and some general trail buffing courtesy of the Greensboro Fat Tire Society.

Mostly a cross country ride with little technical challenge aside from the occasional root. A couple elevation changes are found to mix it up a little. A nice little connector trail.

Either way is fine...

Just thought I would let everyone know, rode the trail today and it is looking great. But the new seasonal growth is coming in on the first part of the trail (from main entrance) and we need to ride the trail to push this stuff back.

I liked this trail a lot. I will agree, not the greatest trail in the Triad, but each trail around here has different purposes. As said, this is a great trail for a beginner. It has some of everything so someone can get a feel for their bike, legs, etc. without feeling "baby'ed". It would also be a great warmup trail on a "long bike day" since so many of Greensboro's great trails are nearby. The view is also a very redeeming quality, it would be nice next time to stop and just watch some wildlife while out there. It is no Owl's roost, but it is still a small hidden gem.

Customer Service

On this trail, no real route, you park at either end and go.

I cut my mountain-biking teeth on this trail but now usually ride it every year or so for a change of pace and for old times sake. Not really a very good trail, especially compared to the other area trails. Good place to go if you want some privacy as usually you won't run into anyone else out here.

The trail is mostly flat , rooty with some nice quick turns through the trees.Just a good trail to get a taste of mtn bikin. It can be muddy through the swamp area but that can be ridden around.

Customer Service

Take all right hand turns going out then all right hand turns again coming back.Look at the map posted at at each end of the trail (nice idea)

This trail has got to be the worst rail in history of biking. There need to be a lot done to this trail to make it worh while. Poor markings make you guess the direction to go on it. Also the trail is swanpy in some areas which really cause components to wear out easier. The Fat tire association of Greensboro needs to get it together and clear this trail and make it enjoyable for the people that really like to ride. If you really like to bike ride at Bur-Mil, Higgins lake, or Hobby Park in winston, do not plan a day off or after work ride on this trail you will find it a waste of a good chance to ride.

Recomend never riding this trail again

This trail is in decent shape and is maintained regularly. There are many roots to negotiate and narrow single track is the rule. The challange lies in keeping up your speed while threading the tight turns, multiple bridges, and short steep hills. Wet spots will linger after a good rain. Multiple parallel routes are available to keep you thinking, but as long as you keep the creek to your south side you will find your way. It's a good place to spot wildlife as it lies between the water and many local pastures. Deer and waterfoul are abundent.

Customer Service

Alex's trail head directions need updating. This trail is literally in my back yard and I ride it 2-3 times a week.
